Grass is undergrowth. Read about it on the bfeditor.org forums.
Water is controlled by the water tab in the tweaker bar. Or you can use water plains for smaller areas.

Best thing to do is read one of those beginner map tutorials on the BFeditor.org forums.

Personally, I say the map's ok, but you're overusing effects, the map will probably be pretty laggy if you keep it up. Effects are cool, but do not over use them (the old - too much of a good thing isn't). Also, your grass texture seems to be messed up with those random dark spots, I don't know what that is (I've never had them), but you probably want to fix it.

Finally, if you want to map for PR, look for how to set up PR for editing on the bfeditor site as well. Also, when mapping for PR, try to base your map off a real place (kind of stinks if you have a good imagination, but the Devs insist).

tuts m8 will save you. it's always good to seek advice but water is pretty basic and we got a pretty extensive tut section. but some people might flame you for asking these questions so i hope you brought your flame suit sadly.

to make your map playable you will have to delete these buildings from pic 2 with the strange texture (there is one in pic 1 aswell).
looking at the status of your map it might still crash but thats the only crash-causing issue i can see according to the pics.
and pls pls pls change your colourtexture...its awful to look at. might look better of you generate lowdetailtexture but thats another chapter ;)

where did you find those houses anyways? can't remember i've seen them yet? :-P

the temple shouldn't be problematic though, it's used on e.g. ghost train.

one point, easy fix: set up a lowdetail texture:

in terrain paint mode -> tweaker bar -> lowdetailtype: set it to

0 for flat terrain
1 for slightly bumpy terrain (would be the one to take for most parts of your map)
2 for very steep terrain (mountains)

then, go to the editor bar -> set low detail texture -> choose the default one -> generate low detail map.

repeat for all layers according to the type of terrain.

see the difference. :-)

other than that, like it has been already said: tuts, tuts, tuts.. and most likely more tuts etc.. :-P

check out the tutorial section here at the community modding forums. bfeditor.org is your friend as well, if you've got some patience you can really learn a lot. there are tons of valuable infos around and tons of great and well explained tutorials.

and yea, it's a good idea to set up the editor for pr first, it jus gives you so many more statics etc.. on the other hand it's a wise decision to start with the very basics like you do 8-)

good luck!

EDIT: btw, don't think your ctd is objects related, that should crash the map around 15%.. sounds more like init.con to me..

EDIT: oh and, from ogt's staticobjects.con :
/objects/staticobjects/_asia/village/temple/
just check if your using that one..

change your colourtexture to avoid the dark spots and paint again.
To avoid the dark spots on your grass you will have to lower the number of "TerrainColorScale".you can find this option in the tweakerbar when you select you undergrowthtype.
