Knife speed
Watching the animation, i just realized how long it takes to get the knife out...
maybe it could be sped up just a tad to compensate for the fact that if i was pulling out a knife at point blank range i probably wouldn't move my hands into position i would probably just stab right away?
.5 seconds is actually a lot when it comes to battle....
just a personal opinion... and i have many BAD opinions: State your thoughts!

Nahh, this isnt CS:S where you try to get leet knife kills. In my opinion, pulling out the knife is too quick. You gotta drop your rifle, reach for your knife and then unsheathe it.
The whole point of a lot of this is slowing the gameplay down by slowing animations. Same reason for the reload animations which Im about to mention in the other thread.

Re: Knife speed
I'm guessing that the time delay can be realistically explained by the fact you need to do something with your primary weapon before you can utilise your knife... i.e; either sling or place your rifle on the ground, then take your knife out of the pouch.
Don't agree with the COD insta knife concept as it disregards the above two points.

Re: Knife speed
unless you have own a knife similar to the bf2/PR ones (usually 1 foot long and 7 inch blade) i think the deploy time is fine, also considering you got to unlatch it.

Re: Knife speed
I doubt the main purpose of a knife in the armed forces is to be ready for that rare and last ditch effort to kill someone. But honestly, I wouldnt know...
I just imagine it gets more use as a general tool/aid before it gets used to slash someone...
I hope... But dont know...

Re: Knife speed
look at every combat soldier in the field today and they will have their combat knife in it's sheet on the front of their chest along with magazines etc.
it might be quick to reach for it, but it will still take as long if not longer than the current animation to get it out of the sheet (even when dropping the rifle)
1. drop/put down weapon (preferably the first since it should be a last ditch effort)
2. reach for the knife)
3. unsecure the knife from the sheet
4. pull it out of the sheet horizontally (it's no on the side of the soldier since it's in the way during different tasks i believe (except during maintainence at base etc)
5. attack.
if you can do this faster than the current animation then be my guest and video tape it for proof, because as far as i know a soldier (even in a life/death situation) won't be as quick or quicker, and to say that they got training in using the knife is probably a bad idea to use as an example since they wouldn't have used their time on being very effective at unsecuring the knife (except maybe marines during CQC training)

Re: Knife speed
I think if a crazy MEC would attack me I would trow my rifle at him and then take the knife?

Re: Knife speed
There SHOULDNT be a sense of urgency to get your knife in my opinion, this isn't Counter Strike. The knife is mainly meant for knifing rallys and taking out bunkers/hideouts. OR, if you want to leet knife an enemy from behind, which is perfectly fine, I see no problem in that.
Its not meant to be a "OH SHI-" option, in my opinion. Though there will obviously be times thats how you'll feel.
I see it more as a tool than a weapon. Maybe you guys should too

Re: Knife speed
Yeah, of course, I think he's talking about in the game, since the game isn't simulating it in a tool kind of way then it should at least have a use as a insta kill weapon no matter how unrealistic, if not that then just take it out. :\[R-CON]OkitaMakoto wrote:I doubt the main purpose of a knife in the armed forces is to be ready for that rare and last ditch effort to kill someone. Re: Knife speed
Solution: replace knives with crowbars, Freeman style.
ZOCOM Squad Leader/Heavy Weapons Specialist
ZOCOM is a 3 man team, looking for team play with eachother, and other people. If you see the ZOCOM squad ingame, and you've got VOIP and wanna pitch in to the squad, join up.

Re: Knife speed
If you where in a squad, then you woundent need a knife.
