whenever PR gets around to making a recon class, i think this would be the perfect weapon.

Seems more appropriate for a designated marksman

Not in US service. The M14 and variants are still in service with designated marksman and special operations, but some USSOCOM units field what is called the Mk-14, which is an M14 in the "Enhanced Battle Rifle" configuration designed by Sage.

Reconnaissance units, including cavalry scouts, light infantry (including airborne and air assault) battalion scouts and Long-Range Surveillance Units use M4s and M16s, but may have a designated marksman. In Army light infantry battalions, the sniper teams are also found in the scout platoon.

What about the USMC DMR?

DMR, handily enough, stands for Designated Marksman Rifle. I'm not sure what exactly the Recon Class is supposed to be, but from the original suggestion it seems enough like the previously proposed designated marksman classes to replace snipers.

I give you the DMR, basicaly an M14 with fancy new stuff. Used by the US Marines, the branch of the armed forces we see present in BF2 and PR.

That's a possibility as another weapons option for the USMC scout-sniper or designated marksman. Oddly enough, the USMC will be phasing these out in the next few years, also, because of the difficulty of maintaining them. They only just came into service in 2002.

Special Ops is basically like a recon class, so there really is no need for another one. Maybe give them an M14 as an alternate weapon or modify the class a little, but how much more could you do with a recon class that you couldn't do with the already special ops one?

Maybe it could be used in higher quantity (if implemented, at all) on maps featuring special operations

I think a semi automatic marksman rifle like those sweet looking M14s would be a great replacement for the current spec ops class, it would take some skill to use the things, but would pay off

I think the sniper class should stay, they just stay behind or on a cliff/mountain and snipe more where as if a new recon class with one of these M14s were implemented, would be the stealthy marksman - we dont need the M4 and G36 for spec ops, theres already enough assault rifles in the game, and its not quite fair to have something nice like an M4 capable of full auto with a nice dot scope - at the absolute LEAST replace that ACOG scope with a reflex dot sight

Whats this, the 5th topic on M14s and the Designated marksman class?
The DEVs have said numerous times, M14 is most likely going to be in, as is a designatated marksman class.
As for a recon class, its a good idea. An M4 SOPMOD would be a better option than an M14 SOPMOD.
