My pr_edit folder is a multisexed transvestite transgendered whore between .5, .6, .7, and .8.
I just unzip the objects folder of the new installs into PR...lawl. Doesnt do any harm as far as I know UNLESS something was taken out of an earlier build... but those things are pretty obvious if they end up missing from your map
Though I should strongly advise doing what they say and just remaking it

I had the same question myself. I was daring and copied the .8 files to the bf2/mods folder. I renamed it pr_edit2, just in case. I also had a copy of my map on the Desktop (wherein previous versions of the map are stored, in case I screw up).
I tested my map in pr_edit2 after copying the level folder to the new .8 levels folder. Worked fine, everything was intact.

I've never used anything along the lines of this pr_edit you're talking about... I have a little minimod that loads the archives from bf2 and pr I need (which change depending on what I'm doing) and I make changes in that. That way it doesn't use up stupid amounts of disk space and I don't need to screw around with anything when there's a new bf2 patch or pr release. Also packing is quicker, because I'm only dealing with a couple of files in a zip, rather than several hundred megs.

Its mainly for editing maps, because you need the objects files unzipped into folders for the editor to read. [there might be more to it, but that's my understanding heheh]
As far as the rest of the pr_edit folder[menu, levels[other than yours], videos, etc], I'm not sure how entirely needed it is for mapping, unless you also test your maps in pr_edit

Well, unzip 'em in the PR folder. If you don't change any already existing files it won't hurt a thing.

Very true, but the bulk of the filesize comes from the objects folder anyway... the stuff like the videos and menu stuff is pretty negligible.
I also just wouldnt want to risk messing something up, better to have it easily contained
My bf2 mods folder is
19.4 Gigabytes

Daaaaang

My bf2 mods folder is... 6.71gb
Back when I was an active developer though... it was well over 30gb.

Yeah - Mine mod folder is 30 gb - storage space doesn't really matter much these days though.
Just in case people haven't noticed, Rhinos posted an updated PR_EDIT.rar for v0.8 with the new object spawner templates etc :
http://www.gloryhoundz.com/prmm/users/rhino/PR_EDIT.rar
Also another problem I had when I updated is that I lost my custom road templates, so make sure you copy those over too.
