Deployed firing mode for rifles too?

Would it be possible to add a deployed firing mode for all rifles too, similar to light MG in 0.8?

This would be very useful with shooting from standing position. The new buildings in 0.8 are very nice with lots of windows, but shooting from second or third floor to ground level is very hard due to the new deviation, because you are forced to shoot from standing position to see anyone below your level.

In real life soldiers use the walls, doors and windows frames for additional support, but that is not currently possible. Now I feel when trying to shoot from window to someone below me, that I am the one in worse position, when having the "higher ground" should make you feel exactly the opposite.

The Red Orchestra-way of doing the additional support would be nice, but I suspect similar thing can't be added due to the engine, or it would have been already done :) .

If the deployed mode could be added so that when you deploy your rifle it takes a couple of seconds to get it done and the deviation would then go to the same amount as when crouched/prone. That way it would not be beneficial to use it in wrong place, because you could go prone or crouch faster, but it would help in those places where shooting from standing position is the only option.

How does that sound?

Unfortunately you can't deploy on walls and such with the engine. Think this is a resuggestion too.

Check the Already Suggested Suggestions thread, and use the search if you don't find what your gonna suggest there ;)

Yes, I understand that the engine won't know when you are near wall, I am suggesting that you could deploy with rifle in standing position to gain similar effect no matter where you are.

If the deployed rifles deviation would go to same as in crouched/prone, it would not be beneficial to use this in wrong places (in open field for example) because you could just go prone faster.

you could make it so when u deploy the gun, you are standing, and in a position of no movement (other than aiming of course). the deployed state would only be useful whilst looking over a wall/window ledge.

i am not educated in modding, so excuse any errors.

the question is, would this be a worth while addon to the mod?

Perhaps give it to marksmen and/or snipers only, then. It would especially make sense for the marksman, as he's supposed to provide accurate fire on the move, but should also be able to deploy for increased accuracy when in a defensive position. After all, most of the DM rifles in the game have, or can be fitted with bipods.

Makes less sense for the snipers, as they're not supposed to be as mobile as DMs, and generally should deploy before taking each shot, but something to consider anyway.

i believe we have come across an interesting idea, i would be greatly disapointed if this is let go without serious thought from some R-***'s

i believe in this version fire fights are relisticly going for longer periods of time (a possible developer goal), and maybe this might also help to make for longer and more realistic firefights, making people use cover in a more positve fashion.

same here. The Deploy mode is great. And Snipers and Marksmen both have a free weapon slot.

And if the gun is deployed, the settle down time of the gun is much shorter. But you cant move. (Like Americas Army). Would be nice to see this in game!

This all needs to be reanimated. This is a very time consuming and tedious process. The animation team is furiously busy with community mod work and 3rd person animations. For normal rifles I can't see it as a worthwhile but for sniper rifles and marksmen rifles it makes sense. The default sniper rifle could handle a lot like a scoped rifle and the deployed one would act like the current one but only when prone. The marksmen rifle would be much the same but with relatively increased accuracy when deployed. The rifles without a bipod could use a modified grip like so:

Problem with all this is when I suggested it pre-0.809 it got shot down. EDIT: I guess others have more pull than me. :-P

The reason the MG's were given a deployable state is threefold. Firstly, you can't have recoil based on individual stances. Secondly you can't have two sets of animations for a single weapon (ie a separate deploy and zoom animation). Thirdly, setting up a machine gun should take time and planning. The second weapon slot allows you to meet this criteria.

I can just seen an urban marksman sitting in a building behind lines. Gun poking out window... you guys know where its heading. :-P
