AN/PEQ-2?

Post by vikke-viking »

The AN/PEQ-2 Target Pointer is something I am missing from the US rifle models.
This IR unit is pretty standard for all US troops because it gratly helps the soldier when they are using NVG's like the PVS-7.
This probebly dosent mean much for the gameplay unless you are willing to do some exstentiv coding with night maps and NVG's.
I just think its something that should be on every M16 and M4 to make the rifle look more realistic and corespond to modern US issue rifles.

Oh and why does the M4 have burst selection, shouldent that be full auto?

Night maps have been suggested many times and have been tried, check the *** list for things such as this and NVGs etc...

You're thinking of the M4A1, The Spec Ops kit has this.

EDIT: ok, sorry night maps & NVGs aren't on the *** list but have been in the mod before. There's a few issues that have to be addressed before night maps will work well.

I don't know, it would require a new model, and a reskin. So maybe if we get NVg maps with the need for IR beacons, I'd say no

You played too much CoD4. The M4 which is the standard issue rifle of the US Army is only a Three Round Burst capable rifle. The M4A1 from CoD4 is not standard. Usually it's given to Special Operation Forces. They also get to choose what their rifles are from what I've seen around the many forums.

Basically means no yo won't get a Full Auto M4A1 standard anytime soon

Ah okey, dident know that about the issue M4.
Byt my point with the PEQ isent that you should start making night maps, rather that is pretty much standard for a service rifle to have a PEQ, so the authenticity of the rifles they should have a peq.

I beleive it's more of an add on to the soldier if they want to have it with them. More of a mission specific item. If they expect to leave at dawn and return at noon, an IR pointer probably won't be much use, so it'll be a dead weight to the soldier. For the space that'll take up and the weight, they could get at least another magazine with them instead. As it stands the rifles are already amazingly detailed. An addon that may or may not be used every time they go out isn't a necessary addition

actually its pretty standard to have it on the rifles at alle time, as these fine gentlemen can show you:

As you can see, both the US marines and the US army use them and always have them on. Even the support gunner with the M249 have one.

Ok, my logic is flawed on the attachment. It still requires a remodel, and retexture. at the moment the only complaint about it has been that it isn't full auto even though its correct in that sense.
We don't need to have it absoultly perfect here, we can only use so many polies per rifle

'Course it could be added to the model, requiring only a remodel, retexture and reimport of every weapon that is to have it on. ;)

And, mind you, that would be for no real gain other than looks, because dynamic lights - that is, lasers, flashlights, headlights on cars, etc. - do not work well in BF2.
