Marine weapons

Post by Wicca »

Hi, i was wondering when will the devs implement these wepons? they are standard, and in use amongst marines in RL. And does not have an equilent in PR.

M240 machine gun

M224 Mortar

Shoulder-launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon

M2 Browning machine gun (this is the Heavy machine gun nest near FB and Bunkers?)

M252 Mortar

Im just wondering if anyone is gonna implement these wepons, or if they are gonna forget about them.

Well m240's are yet to be implemented.

The code/gameplay for mortars is yet to be designed/made.

And the smaw and m2 are ingame I believe.
smaw = heavy AT
m2 = vehicle top machine gun, such as on an abrams and heavy machine gun emplacement

The M240 has been suggested plenty of times, usually on Blackhawks. I agree, it would be more realistic, but then the MEC/PLA helicopters would own the Blackhawk with their .50s.

Mortars are not going to happen any time soon, primarily because we have enough assets out there.

The M2 Browning Machine gun is already in game. It is mounted on top of Humvees and is the deployable .50 that you put around FOBs. And, as said above, on the Abrams.

In reality, I think the SMAW was supposed to be replaced by the SRAW (officially, I think the story was the Armed Forces wanted a vehicle-tracking weapon, so they contracted a company that produced the SRAW), although to me they seem like completely different weapons.

iirc m240s are a platoon based HMG, so I guess the m249 is better suited for current team sizes

and currently mortars are off map ofc, irontaxi hinted a tiny bit that they might be messing with mobile mortars behind the scenes, but that is NOT confirmed

M240's are in-game (on the UK LandRover gunner seat next to driver)(think it's one..)
But just haven't gotten to USMC yet/on Huey's yet..

Mortars..bleh...

M2 Browning Machine Gun can already be found as an asset to be placed, and on Humvee's,etc..
SMAW= AT-4/Light AT kit currently in-game..AT-4 is phasing out SMAW I'm pretty sure right now..?

Sorry, nope. That would be the L7A2.

The two are very similar. Identical rate of fire (650-1000 rpm), identical round (7.62 NATO), nearly the same barrel length (3mm difference), and very close muzzle velocity (60 m/s difference).

Almost identical, but not the same. Except for the model, you could slap the Landy's L7A2 on the Huey and no one would notice that it isn't the M240.

The AIX mod has mortars. You just plop them down where ever and start firing away.

So have them give us some Paladins or equivalent. Let the players work out how to bombard each other, not some off map system. It's a reversion back to Vanilla. Give me my artillery goddamnit!

Sorry, I just really want to play Fire Support Section Leader in PR, wow, I have very boring wants...

Mortars are useful when you want to blow up infantry hiding in the woods or on roof tops.

Gents remember that this isnt a "Should mortars be in PR" thread.

... Then what is the purpose of this thread if we can't discuss the inclusion of the weapons that were proposed?

Wicca was wondering if anyone was going to implement these weapons into PR. Not why they should or shouldnt be in PR.

Mortars are always tricky for these kinds of games. They would be a limited, and a well sought after weapon. But then there are balancing issues. How would it be aimed? Would it be too accurate? Would it be too portable?

I've seen several different variations in how mortars are implemented in to multiplayer shooters and there are always sacrifices.

Realistically the mortar team would set the range and angles, but unless there was someone to spot, and spot accurately (depending on how ammo works w/ mortars, if the spotter just says left or right then by the time the mortar is on target either there's no one to shoot or ammo is gone), there would be major issues in the kind of teamwork required for this weapon. Upside: accuracy. Downside: requires proficient teamwork and spotting.

I've seen games give the mortar man a "map" to place a reticle over. To balance for this, typically the farther out the target the less accurate the mortar will fire, and will land anywhere within an increasingly large radius. This is good for aiming quickly, but also kind of a waste of mortar ammo if it is unlikely that any shots at range are going to hit where you want on the first few shots.

I've always thought a realistic mortar would be really cool, but it would only be effective with a mortar team that really has practiced (preferably together) on the weapon. The spotter has to direct fire (maybe he can have a laser range fire, but he has to keep in mind where he is in relation to the mortar), and the mortar operator has to have a means of knowing his distance to the target (A more accurate map grid for instance). But, I think all of this is just too much to handle for the devs, and a game that does not already have anything in place to handle this kind of weapon.

*hey, this thread just morphed from a "will they..." thread into a "why they should/ shouldn't/ didn't/ wouldn't..." thread. I don't see that as being too far a stretch from the original topic. Some of us care just as much about the "why" as the "will".

I have not seen any suggestion speaking about to add the c-90 instalza on PR. Many armies use this type of ammunition in the operations theatre. If I am not mistaken, this video show two shots in afghanistan by the marines.
