What's up with the SOFLAM?
Right now, I see the SOFLAM as being FAR inferior to the binoculars, and I think that's just plain wrong, and should be corrected.
Reasons:
The biggest fault the SOFLAM has is the long delay from its standard zoom to its secondary zoom. I've timed it and it's over half a second. That's a long time when you're constantly scanning horizons as SL for your squad and you have to deal with that long delay between zooms. Not to mention that once you are fully zoomed, you have to switch out and re-draw the SOFLAM just to start another scan.
Binoculars have a HUGE zoom and also have no visual boundary. I think I read somewhere that the boundary would be adjusted, but that doesn't mean you still don't get the benefits of a quick, efficient, way of scanning terrain.
The range finder on the SOFLAM really doesn't add up to much when you consider that knowing exactly how far away something is really doesn't give a huge advantage over guess-timations and the fact that you can already use move markers to quickly find ranges.
In .75 the SOFLAM was clearly better because it gave you the low-zoom quick scan, but also the quick, high zoom scan ability. Now, that long wait between zooms combined with long .8 draw times nerfs the SOFLAM severely.
So is this delay really necessary?
Is it realistic? The sniper scope zooms in much faster than this, and its not even an electronic device (which should be faster)
If we could just get rid of this zoom delay, the SOFLAM would once again be a better, more versatile optic over the binoculars, which IMO, is the way it should be.

its due the the animation time, we can't make the 2nd zoom quicker as a result unless we shorten the time down.

hummm odd, maybe might have been something to do with realism but I'll look into it.

Yea, I didn't even realize the range finder was taken out....
So Rhino, I take it you acknowledge that this is kind of a problem? I know it's not a high priority issue, but can you tell us if it's going to be adjusted? I wouldn't have a problem with the SOFLAM having less of a draw time to help with the zoom delay...

I heard it was because the range finder came up on screen before the SOFLAM got fully sighted in, like the Heavy AT stabilization cross hair.[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:hummm odd, maybe might have been something to do with realism but I'll look into it.

also the ability of the soflam to spot and mark targets like armour/apc/vehicle spotted, isn't one of the jobs of the spec ops to be reconosience

wait what?! ok the main job of any special forces unit would be reconnaisence, killing people and blowing stuff up is second. special forces units are sent in either to gather intel, gather intel and blow stuff up, blow stuff up from intel provided by another unit, or support a regular fighting unit.pureperversions wrote:also the ability of the soflam to spot and mark targets like armour/apc/vehicle spotted, isn't one of the jobs of the spec ops to be reconosience

ack i ment the soflam on the spec ops has lost the abilty to spot targets on the main map or report them to the commander or maybe when ever i have tryed there has been no commander?

Range finder should be re-added in my opinion, to prevent the need to place an attack marker down to get a range to target.
