PR from Best to Worst

Post by DavidP »

#1
Project Reality .5

Hands down the Best Version of Project Reality ever released!

The One. No other Mod, Game, or Version of PR itself even compares to the sheer awesomeness of .5! It was the Best of Bf2 without the things that made Bf2 suck. There was teamwork, people using Voip, Squad play, Nice counter balancing(without resorting to Mirroring everything), But most of all it was Fun! It had everything that we as team players wanted. And then some! No other online Gaming experience could rival what Project Reality .5 was. And none ever will. That's why it's Number 1.

#2
Project Reality .75

The Redeemer. With the disaster that was .7, .75 was a surprise to say the least. It did not have the Horror of .7 just everything else. And by everything else, it means the Good Stuff, the New content. The maps were amazing, the Gameplay more so, and the way it all came together after what .7 was makes it not only the Second Best PR version. But the only one where the devs actually listened what the Community was saying to make changes.

#3
Project Reality .6

The Mediocre one. Came right after the wave of success that was .5, Did not live up to expectations. More so that it killed a few key gameplay elements that made it's predecessor a success. It did however have 1 redeeming factor. The Introduction of the Militia Faction.

#4
Project Reality .7

The Dream Crusher. With High hopes the community had with .6 were not lived up to, .7 not only crushed them and any faith in the devs that was had. It completely ruined the core of any game or mod. FUN. The new deviation system was the key factor. Hitting a target anything past blank was nearly impossible. And anyone who enjoyed some nice long range action was in for a surprise. When no matter how long they waited their bullets would hit everywhere but the target. That's why it's Number 4.

#5
Project Reality .8

The End. Honestly the Worst Version of PR to date. All that was promised came but with many strings attached. So much of the gameplay was changed needlessly to accommodate the wants of the devs not the players. The Horrible .7 deviation made a return(Did'n they learn from .75?) Insurgency was sacrificed. Militia were "standardized", Already high spawn times were put through the roof! For the same ol' excuse that is always used. Gameplay and Teamwork. Funny every change since .6 in the name of them, has not only destroyed them. But driven more and more people away from the Mod. More and More people doubt the Devs words and think this is all a "Social Experiment" where people are being conditioned to play, act, and made to believe! Things that the Devs want them to. Kind of Reminds you of EA doesn't it?

Other Thoughts

Will .85 save PR? Or will it put the final nail in the Coffin? Either way the only thing thats sure is that Project Reality .8 as of writing. Is the Worst version of the Mod to date.

According to recent statistics, .8 is the most popular version of PR with more players flocking to it, it introduced new maps, new factions and new equipment. You seem to condemn without thinking, so lets look at a few things here.
The devs have already confirmed that the deviation system is still being tweeked. This is a mod and we're on release .8. A mod release does not mean a full version, it does not mean a perfect version, it's just another step towards the final release. Consider it a Beta Test, things are constantly being worked on and nothing is set in stone.

Insurgency Mode suffers from some bugs still yet and the devs have said that they are working on fixing it. Part of this being .8 means that, again, it's not done. Some things like the new spawn times and insurgent spawn points needs to be tested with the open public to see how they fully work. And as for the militia, how are they more standardized?

You seem to offer most of your criticism because the mod is not going in the direction you want it to. That's fine, but constantly reading you ***** and moan how the developers are destroying their own work is getting tiresome. If you don't like it, take a break until .85, but for those of us with enough intelligence to realize that this is an incremental process, we'll deal with the occasional hiccup.

lol, according to the stats, v0.8 is by far the most successful and fun version of PR. Yes there is lots to still be worked on but really most players would say v0.8's gameplay is the best so far thou yes we still need to work on things like deviation etc a lot. If we had a realistic weapon sway system we wouldn't need any deviation at all but the fact is we can't and deviation is the only way to emulate it effectively and its a move towards realistic gameplay. Like i said, still needs work.

Anyways I suggest you do one of 2 things:

1. Give us some constructive feedback that we can work on if we choose to, this is just criticism that dose not archive anything. Then for v0.85 we may make it more towards what you want if we think your ideas will help improve the mod.

2. Go play PR v0.5 instead of PR v0.8 and if there is this huge amount of players that thing the same way as you I'm sure you will be able to fill the servers...

Harsh words, but also on tune. I came back (played 0.6 for months then buggered off) into the game days after .75 was put out and hands down for me that was great. Wasn't too slow like 0.8 is sometimes and wasn't like vBF2 (on crack).

There was enough realism in .75 to last me a life time. Too much of it kills the game play as well as driving away old players and making it harder to get new players to stay around.

But don't get me wrong 0.8 is still great, it is full of amazing content. But there are just a few things that have held 0.8 back from what it is entitled to be. But most of the things that have held it back is due to the BF2 engine holding the Devs back...again

pretty sure that was v0.6, when we got the warrior in for the brits and had players spawning off the warriors and trucks in AoM.

um... here's the first thought that spring into my mind without even reading much. Is all that super-sized font necessary?

Contrary to the unfounded claims of some individuals, the number of players/servers are about the same if not higher in 0.8 compared to 0.5

Servers playing BattleField 2 | Server / Player Search | Game - Monitor . COM

^take a look at the data for yourself, PR is still maintaining a fairly good player base

Anyhow, with every release there are people shouting "The End Is Near!" or "This release sucks" we've seen it since 0.4. (and yes, there were people saying 0.5 would kill PR). Yet PR still goes on despite all those threads. Some people can't seem to grasp the concept of PR 0.XX, as in it isn't the final product. Also, PR isn't for everyone. If it's not your thing then nothing is holding you back from picking up another game.

The Devs can and have every right to make the mod as they see fit. They are definitely are NOT EA as they actually responds to the community and considers the feedback. that does NOT mean what ever people in the community say goes, after all it is the PR-team that actually has to crank out the works with every suggestion and whatnot.

To sum it up, If you don't like the current PR, play something else. You are always welcomed to come back and pick up on it again in future releases or when you decided to try its style of game-play.

YOu know I agree 100% with this. .8 so far has been by far my most disliked version of the game so far. I miss when we had just al basrah with the brits on like 2-3 maps and the US kicking butt in the city with the A10 providing support.
We need fun devs, making this a simulation of life or for export to the US War College isn't going to make it fun for the people who remember this from the old days. More and more older players are leaving because of the "gameplay" features introduced into the game, that kills the fun we used to have.
Honestly who wants to wait a full 8 seconds to reload a gun?

Gonna have to disagree entirely. v.5 was epic indeed, but v.8 blows it out of the water in my opinion. New maps, vehicles, faction, and animations = win. Couple with even slower gameplay, it's awesome. Most of those versions had extremely high accuracy for all of the rifles too, (except v.7) which sucked majorly. Not to mention you could run almost everywhere. Best part about v.5 was the epic trailer.

Each new release is getting different and (in some people's opinion's) harder than the previous versions.

there is a great point here that i think is being over looked. i have said before that a great mod was made, there is no argument there. however it was the players that made the mod great. i see fewer and fewer of these long time supporters of the game. have players of quility been replaced with numbers? quantity of players dose not make quality of game play. perhaps going back to moding the game vs moding the player may result with more positive feed back.

Another thread about .8 sucks my god, why don't you write in one of the posts with the exact same context instead of making a new post.

this just sounds like the OP wants PR to go more arcadey. If you dont like PR and the direction its going in dont play it.

Simple numbers don't tell you how good a game is. They tell you how popular it is. Popularity is an interesting thing, and is effected by a lot of things that are unrelated to core gameplay gameplay dynamics and experience.
