Idle time?

Post by Oddsodz »

OK. Some server have a kick for Idle in place. Not a bad thing in it's self. Don't want idlers wasting good server slots. But there is a small problem that if you sit in a AA Stinger SAM site or a Fixed Ground TOW. You become idle. Even if you are moving your mouse around and talking on VoIP. The server thinks that you have stopped moving and when the timer reaches the limit, you get kicked.

I Quick fix is to turn of the kick for idle on servers. But that does not solve the real problem.

Could this be fixed in 0.85?

This is a server side option not controllable by PR. It's up to whoever is providing the server to turn it on and off.

I Know that. That's why I said it was a quick fix. But it does not fix the issues that you become "idle" when in fact you are not.

I think firing things stops it, maybe just add a dummy weapon you can fire every so often to stop the kick. only problem i see is that you'd have to 'load' the real ammo again which would take time.

Just press WASD or something when you're in the gun, I heard someone say that that stops you getting kicked.

Eh? I think you could probably make the load time between them instant anyway. What unrealistic about something that doesn't even change how the weapon handles?

Anyway, I imagine what Vox said is probably true, just have to remember to do it every once in a while.

I'm sure this is a bug that isn't intended, I was on T&T as commander, and got kicked after 2 minutes despite doing the whole talky talky with the voipy voipy etc. Been commander before and after that, so I'm not sure what happened there.

(got switched to insurgent when I rejoined :D did some technical pwnage instead)

I've get to hear of a TOW gunner getting kicked for being idle irl either (at least not in the same way :p ).

I agree its not a perfect option, but its better than being kicked, the WASD may work, i know you need more than a mouse input to prevent the kick, if that works then problems 'solved', just needs to publicised as a solution.

The reload issue depended on whether the switch weapon delay can be separate from the inital delay on entering tow/aa before you can fire that prevents you hoping on an firing instantly.

Dam, then somone has lied to me lol.

I'm never a big user of weapon emplacements so my experiences are pretty standard.
