PR Controls
Well i was curious as to everyone elses control setup. It seems everyone uses WASD? Old fashioned me however still uses the arrow keys, even though most of my friends scoff at the idea
. Anyone else use them?

Re: PR Controls
I'm a big arrow user, used arrows since playing that first demo of heretic off a 4.5 disk from a copy of games master (when people actually bought it back in the day), was 6 at the time and heretic and doom scared the shit outta me... My desk is pretty wide so I have the arrows where WASD would be for most anyway.
Rest of my controls are pretty weird too...
Arrows - Movement
Return - Sprint
R. Shift - Jump
R. Ctrl - Duck
Delete - Prone
End - Reload
Backspace - Get in/out
# - Main Radio
/ - Second Radio
. - Commander channel
Num 1 - Rifle
Num 0 - Pistol
Num 4 - Grenades
Some other Num buttons that I never really remember use - other weapons
Beat that!
I play bass so I have a pretty nimble and wide stretching left hand, so they don't really bother me too much when it comes to needing a quick reaction, for anyone that plays, I can now pretty comfortably stretch from the 12th to 18th fret between my 1st and pinky fingers, can do 19th but the notes sound a bit muted and horrible...

Re: PR Controls
All default for inf and ground vehicles except I moved the "change weapon" from F to H because F is my push to talk on TS.

Re: PR Controls
I find WASD quite handy, so I use it. Everything else is on default too i think, unless something really bugged me and I had to change it, but I think this is not the case with BF2.
By the way:
When describing your layout, remember the keylayout is different from country to country. Some keys may be handy on your keyboard, but would be very odd on others. I think it'd be easier if we'd agree to use the english keyboard as default or use a blank one as example.

Re: PR Controls
I've been thinking about transitioning to ESDF, but haven't done it yet. My current setup is designed for squadleading with easy access to communication keys and squad commands.
WASD - movement
CTRL - crouch
Z - prone
Shift - sprint
R - reload
F - enter
G - pick up kit
Q - main radio
E - secondary radio (for quick move markers)
CAPSLOCK - change view
Mouse 1 - fire
Mouse 2 - sight in
Mouse 3 (side button) - VOIP
Mouse 4 (side button)- squad screen (I check my map constantly and often use it to set move markers)
Mouse 5 (lean left on scroll wheel) - command channel
Mouse 6 (lean right on scroll wheel) - teamspeak
My weapon and equipment keys are split between XCV (binoculars, pistol/e-tool, field dressing), and 123459 (everything else).

I alternate V and B.
Same mouse as OP, mouse4 is primary weapon (3) to quickly switch fire mode. Mouse 5 is M-map

Re: PR Controls
For ages I was an arrows player (US layout) then when lean started showing up in games. I moved to the numeric keypad for the extra keys 7 - 9 lean (Voice coms and map zoom in PR) 8-5 4-6 for movement and the other keys for weapon, crouch, prone etc. Always had trouble getting used to WASD setup.
Now for Christmas I got myself the Merc Stealth keyboard with the gamepad on the left side. I'm still getting used to it so if you see me suddenly jump out of a moving vehicle or switch to wrench in a knife fight this week that's why (or my excuse for now anyway

Re: PR Controls
Really strange to see all those setups compared to what you've always been used to.
Here's mine.

WASD - movement
Left shift - sprint
Caps and M - map
TAB - scoreboard
Left CTRL - crouch
Alt - icons
Z - prone
C - Second gun view
G - pick up
R - reload
E - enter
Q - commo rose
B - voip
V - commander voip
Space - jump

Re: PR Controls
The most important key-binding changes are to set the enter vehicle key to Backspace and the weapon 3 key to the middle mouse button (clicking the wheel).
The Backspace change reduces the risk of accidentally bailing from a vehicle, and the weapon 3 change makes it a lot easier to change the rate of fire and switch back to the main weapon after, for example, using a dressing or grenade. (I picked this one up from America's Army.)

Screw WASD - I've been using ESDF and I just love it.
Recently I was even thinking about switching to RDFG (ESDF one key to the right) to allow me to use more keys on left of my keyboard

Re: PR Controls
I was an arrow key user until I got my laptop, I had to move to the WASD keys, but they are modified. W is reload, Mouse2 is move fwd. Mouse 3 is alt fire, mouse 4 and 5 are weapon selectors. I am do to remap though, as I have found several of my closest keys not being used anymore and I'm hunting for some others (mostly due to changes in the game since .7 when I last mapped the keys).

Re: PR Controls
Heh, that's precisely why I have prone bound to a side mouse button. I got used to it back in Desert Combat days and have been using it that way ever since, even though I crouch more than I prone in PR.gazzthompson wrote: prone : left alt
