Battle of Qinling MAP suggestion.

Post by Hotrod525 »

hello guyz, my suggestion is not about vehicle, faction or gun's. Its all about the map. As must people realise, there is atleast 1000 trees on this map, and to be honest, that is the factor that kill the map popularity. Cause too much object, mean need more PC ressource, so that mean less player can play it.

I got a good pc, AMD6000+ 4G of Ram, 2 8800GTS for 1.3 Gig of VidRam and i'm laggin, and gettin CTD.

If instead of having many trees every where make a non dense forest, why dont you just remove alot of them, replace them by condensated forest and put some flag at the upper left corner.. cause for now that area is non used at all.

Comments?

Qinling runs absolutely fine and smooth for me to be honest.

I hope you realize that 4GB mem is a huge problem in 32bit windows which usually causes the crashes as bf2 tryes to write onto those blocks of mem causing the CTDs/BSOD:s.

In 0.75 version I had a huge bug only in qinling. Every time I looking at the lake my fps would come down to 4-5 but only when looking at that lake. This was fixed with a reinstall. Maybe this is the issue in your case also?

I dont think suggesting the devs change a map {and by change i mean dumb it down, its supposed to be a dense forest area} because your having pc problems is a good idea. Your pc is way beyond mine, and I run qinling smooth as silk in all high settings. so something must be wrong with your pc, such as the aforemention 4gb ram issue. If anything the devs are only going to be pushing the limits of the bf2 engine even further so you really may want to address whatever pc problems you have first before asking for maps to be changed around.

Sounds more like a hardware problem, I see you are running two cards in SLi, have you tried disabling one before you load project reality?
(I don't have much experience with SLi myself, but I have read about it causing issues with old games that don't support it)

Mine lags more on Ramiel because of the smoke and fire from the roadblocks than any other map.

I do agree on the flag in the upper left corner though, that map comes down to a stalemate over the two flags and gets boring in a hurry for me anyway.

With your computer, the heaviness of the map is not reason. Problem is somewhere else.

SLI shouldn't be a problem. I run 2 8800 ultras and have no problems at all.

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

I have my settings on the highest possible (inc 8x anti-aliasing) and my computer doesnt have any problems running any of PR maps. guess its just down to luck lol

hotrod, get another heatsink. your cpu is probably bottle necking due to heat. that helped when my heatsink started wearing out.

anyway, 1000 trees is a big understatment, its more like 10000, and since bushes count as overgrowth (or trees) as well, that would make the count to around 30000 total "trees".

well theres your problem right there i believe. ive heard nothing but horror stories about trying to run PR on vista, and ive heard even more horror stories about 64 bit vista. its not the fault of the map makers, or the PR team, its the fact that from everything ive heard PR runs like **** on vista. I suggest a downgrade {which is really an upgrade} to XP. then your uber pc can run as smoothly as my 2 year old pc.

only around 15% of PR players who have voted in that poll have any real problem with Qinling's performance, which is only really 5% more players than what muttrah has so it isn't that bad to talk about totally redoing all the overgrowth and with that bare in mind would mean that all the lightmaps, both terrain and objects would need redoing and more. My time is better spent on making new maps, statics, weapons, vehicles and getting things sorted for PR as well as optimizing things that have an effect on every map than doing all that when really, the lag is most likely not down to the trees, Fools Road has FAR more trees drawing at one time than Qinling dose.
