Laser!
Well i would like to know if the laser designation will be implemented in a realistic manner such as: A Gazelle with a pilot and crewman designates the target, in turn the Apache/Lynx/Cobra climbs out of its hideing line and takes out the target, mabey the Gazelle crew could get team assist points. The same designation sequence could be givern to troops (Scouts) and scout/reconasense vehicals such as the Scorpion, Saladin, BMP and others and other weapons such as aircraft or artillery could do the damage.
Opinions?

I think only laser designation systems from ground personnel and scout helos should be able to paint targets for attack helos/aircraft, mortars, and artillery

It is a NEED item where tanks and other high value units are running around killing your troops.Arikara wrote:I'd actually like to see laser designators implemented. Was one of the few things I was looking forward to with the release of BF2.
It would be a nice addition to PR and infact a decent way to use systems like MLRS, BM-21 'Grad', AS90 and alike.

Id personaly like a system such as the one Joint Ops used, where by targets that were painted showed up on the map as blips, then someone with a mortar just had to zero it in on the target, and comence raining death.

Why the mortar? Use the AS90 that has already been made.the_ultimate_maverick wrote:Bring in MORTAR!
And the problem with Laser Designation is the height/speed/distance from target of the planes. I mean the maps are big but not THAT big

Because mortars would be more suitable for smaller, infantry orientated map's.

Look at this http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/Arty2.jpg
This would be a good way of useing the AS90, its from POE2.

i like the idea of painting targets to highlight them for planes and choppers. the little boxes make any vehicle or AA aparatus a death trap. i would also liek SLs, snipers, and spec ops to be the BF1942 binocs so they could call in coordinants to the battleships. That was excellent!

That's a great idea! Of course, this should only be done by spec-ops units, as in real life.mrmong wrote:why not attempt to get rid of the magic targeting system for bombers in BF2 and make is so the squares appear when you use the laser designator instead, however youd need to contact the aircraft and tell you the approximate position first

That's realistic in terms of ground forces, but moving air targets? No one paints moving aircraft. Especially when it takes 20 minutes at best to have a delivery system hit the target
I just think splashing a moving air target wouldn't be very realistic. However, your suggestion is very valid
