Bots - supression and smoke

Post by WallyJas »

Is it possible for bots to be affected by supression and smoke?

I have seen somewhere on the BF2 Singleplayer forum some coding that makes the smoke stop the bots from firing through it, is it possbile to add this to PR_SP as well as work on something similar for supression?

With smoke we have given it a pretty good go in the past, but I'm (personally speaking) actually really skeptical that bots are actually effected by it.

Outlaw might want to re-investigate this in the future, but that's up to him.

Suppression...short answer is no, so it is what it is.
Truth is, when I'm suppressed, it doesn't stop me from firing.
So I'm extremely hesitant about some how nerfing bots.
Plus, it would take a mass recoding of many items to maybe and only maybe have bots get suppressed.

And you may know this, but a FYI for all, it's an illusion that your reticule is off center while suppressed.
I've killed hundreds of bots and more than my fair share of humans while suppressed.

As far as i know, there are only 3 things that 'scare' bots and these seem to be hard coded.
1) getting run over by vehicles.
2) grenades and any equivalents
3) artillery, mortar, and JDAM strikes

Another FYI for all, molotovs act like grenades and bots may be initially scared off, but once exploded they lose all fear and that's why they will walk stupidly into the flames.

We have done mass testing to try and solve this, but nada.

I believe there have been (rare) instances in the past where smoke was successfully used in preventing enemy bots from observing friendly movement, but Outlaw might remember those situations better than I. The real pisser is that bots can see through foliage, so don't expect to hide in the tall grass and not be seen!

personally i would have to say that they are not affected by suppression effects.

but i would give a silent yes to smoke hindering a bots ability to kill.
ive thrown smoke infront of takes that were spamming mg and AP rounds at me. and as soon as the smoke got as thick as pudding the fire stopped.

i dont think even EA knows how and what bots do.

Suppression:

what ballard said:

Smoke: doesn't work 100% but it does from time to time. it's the same thing the AIX guys used.

its basicly adding 2 crossed, quadratic planes to the smoke that are invisible for human but solid for bots ;-)
