yey paint !!!
first of all, a hill , how ever large or small.
do NOT lay ontop of the hill like this noob !!!

naughty !!!! naughty boy !!!!. if under fire this guy will have to back up (slowly) to find the cover. then to return fire he has to crawl forward.. both movements increase deviation.
now this guys a pro:

standing behind the hill, with the hill covering his body to the enemy , still having a direct line of fire to that other guy who is prone on his hill like a noob !!!
now, your taking fire/need to reload/need to look around/ need to check map/have a poo/what ever ! if your prone, you need to crawl back, takes times and screws with deviation. so with the standing behind hill tactic you can just crouch like this guy;

as you can see, no line of fire for enemy , no deviation screwing (from standing > crouch) and can turn around with speed and ease if need be. also if he wants to return fire he can easily pop up, shoot and get in cover again. all in a tiny amount of time , all without screwing with deviation !
that covers hills. what about roof tops?
guys in cover at roof, shooting over it... but like a noob hes right at the edge of the roof !!

as you can see, hes taking fire !!!! nooooooooooooo take cover !!! he has to go prone.... fail. (deviation, little gay gig going from prone to crouching means he gets shot when wanting to return fire!)
but this guy:

hes pro, again he has fire on enemy but using the cover to cover his body. now your taking fire/need to reload/need to look around/ need to check map/have a poo/what ever !

hes in cover... and can easily pop up, shoot, take cover. all of which have no deviation penalties.
so yea. paint rulez. and use cover properly !!! always try and be kneeling, and be in full cover of enemy, not prone. remember "prone is for noobs" - gazzthompson.
