Gazzthompson basic guide to cover .... with paint !!

Post by gazzthompson »

i see cover miss used in PR all the time, so with some basic paint images im here to show you how to use cover

yey paint !!!

first of all, a hill , how ever large or small.

do NOT lay ontop of the hill like this noob !!!

Image

naughty !!!! naughty boy !!!!. if under fire this guy will have to back up (slowly) to find the cover. then to return fire he has to crawl forward.. both movements increase deviation.

now this guys a pro:

Image

standing behind the hill, with the hill covering his body to the enemy , still having a direct line of fire to that other guy who is prone on his hill like a noob !!!

now, your taking fire/need to reload/need to look around/ need to check map/have a poo/what ever ! if your prone, you need to crawl back, takes times and screws with deviation. so with the standing behind hill tactic you can just crouch like this guy;

Image

as you can see, no line of fire for enemy , no deviation screwing (from standing > crouch) and can turn around with speed and ease if need be. also if he wants to return fire he can easily pop up, shoot and get in cover again. all in a tiny amount of time , all without screwing with deviation !

that covers hills. what about roof tops?

guys in cover at roof, shooting over it... but like a noob hes right at the edge of the roof !!

Image

as you can see, hes taking fire !!!! nooooooooooooo take cover !!! he has to go prone.... fail. (deviation, little gay gig going from prone to crouching means he gets shot when wanting to return fire!)

but this guy:

Image

hes pro, again he has fire on enemy but using the cover to cover his body. now your taking fire/need to reload/need to look around/ need to check map/have a poo/what ever !

Image

hes in cover... and can easily pop up, shoot, take cover. all of which have no deviation penalties.

so yea. paint rulez. and use cover properly !!! always try and be kneeling, and be in full cover of enemy, not prone. remember "prone is for noobs" - gazzthompson.

Actually, what might work better with deviation and stuff, is crouching to fire and going prone to reload/avoid return fire.

but then when you want to return fire you have to go from prone to crouching = gay dance = shot in face. your also to close to cover to turn and run if need be without being shot in back of face.

even at long ranges id still take the ability to get in cover ASAP and out of cover and ready to fire ASAP.

Good guide, I do it already when using AT weapons especially, because you're completely under cover, and you can pop up whenever without loosing any deviation or doing the dance thing, making it easy to quickly spot your target and hit it before it hits you.

Though, when faced with targets over 200 meters, I usually just go from prone to crouch, sure you reset your deviation and you have to wait, but it doesn't tale any time to go prone (or extremely little time at least), and you'll be missing every shot otherwise with 0.8 deviation, maximum and minimum, at that distance.

Of course the other huuuuge part of this story is, make sure you're setup before the enemy is.

If you peek round a corner and see an enemy 50m away lying down prone aiming at you, theres little point in trying to engage him directly because he is in a MUCH better state than you are. Deploy smoke, chuck grenades while your mate flanks, anything to make him get up and move....

the minimum deviation is reached no matter the position though right ? id still take standing to kneeling and other way round than prone to kneeling.

even if they guy 200m away has better deviation (which i dont think he will, cause minimum is reached no matter the position?) hes exposed at all times.

no, mindev for each position is different I think.....

But ye people go on about deviation, but forget that how much of you is showing is just as important as being settled. If you're a 2 metre target, you're going to be easier to hit than a 1 metre target no matter what the deviation is...

Obvious, but you see it all the time.

same thing goes for windows, you dont stand in the window, you stand behind the window. the enemy has a much harder time seeing you and you can easily take cover anywere. by the way nice pictures, it was pretty lol
