Why would you take weapon, helmet AND gear ?

Good morning.

Just wondered why u pick up the helmet and gear also when grabbin an enemy weapon ?

Why was it made that way ?
and would ppl in real warfare would do the same?

i just dont get it.
Why would a U.S Marine drop his helmet for a rag ?

Thats the only thing I kinda hate about .85.
So if anyone could explain this .... make my day :-)

It's my understanding that you take all the gear and helmet, etc. so that the Devs can create more factions, like the Taliban and Russian Armed Forces. That's just what I think it is, it could be something totally different. It has something to do with geometry's.

Hope this tides you over until somebody who knows what they're talking about posts :p

Right, I dont 100% fully understand the "coding" aspect of it, but its basically an unwanted sideeffect we will have to deal with if we want to be able to have diverse uniquely constructed factions like the taliban, rebels, and Russians.

For example, the Russians use a helmet from X soldier model, ammo pouches from B soldier model, and backpack from C soldier model.

What happens as a result of this mix-matching to create realistic/near realistic soldier loadouts is the transference of these equipments to the soldier picking up their kit.

Trust us, we dont WANT it, but itll stay as long as we have the diverse units to make the various factions, and as long as we cant find a fix for it :)

Hope that answers it enough for you...

The bottom line? Dont pick up an enemy kit if you dont wanna risk getting TKd. Its easier to say for the US Army and such on INS maps, but telling an insurgent to not pick up a medic kit from a dead US soldier is easier said than done... sadly its just something you have to not do, or risk the consequences.

I also assume people will get better at looking at actual camo pattern and such rather than merely the helmet and ammo pouches :)

THats the answer I wanted to get in fact :)

BUT (yes, there are TWO "but"´s):
1. It worked on 0.8 .. u pick up the G3 from the MEC and you were still dressed like an US.Marine. Taliban to blame for that ?!

2. lookin at the actual camo pattern isnt that easy on 100 meters :P

But thanks anyway :D

We didnt have the Taliban or the Russians in .8 though ;)

The taliban for example, uses a mixture of kits from the rebels and some others I believe. His turban/headwarap is simply a retextured Hat of some sort. And likewise, his ammo pouches and stuff come from yet another faction.

That's basically what causes it. So for now, until we learn how to fix it, we can either have no Russian Forces, no Taliban, and pretty much no most other factions..... or we can put up with this slightly annoying crappy BF2 engine problem ;)

And agree, looking at camo it hard from a distance, but check your map, know where friendlies are, and it wont be such a problem.

Agree, its annoying though[and I havent even played .85]

;)

Also thought that it was on purpose, and I love it.

Last night almost shot a guy because of US helmet, really love the feeling of "to be aware of that", it somehow bring more realistic feeling during fight, to me.

It works more in the favor of the person picking up the kit which is what i thought was the opposite of the dev goals.

EDIT: oops my bad, didnt see the second page of posts.

Actually I like this bug.

Last night I was almost shot by a guy in my OWN squad, because I was using an Insurgent RPG kit. Then later, as SL I was gunned down, only to be revived with a Cell Leader kit. I drew fire on my squad from other squads.

The inverse is fun, too. I was killed by an insurgent using a US kit, because I hesitated too long because the first thing I saw was the helmet. Then I saw the moustache below it, but it was too late.

This forces people to ID their targets better, and makes CQB even more fun.

I say, keep this bug, just clean up stuff like the backs of skulls sticking through too small helmets.

I mainly use it to confuse the enemy, with works pretty well and gives you
that extra time to shoot him first. When laying down on the floor or in a
ditch, the only thing you can see is the helmet, that also can save you.
So I see it as somekind of spi/camoflage to bring confusion to the enemy.

This change is really funny actually :P I was playing on west fallujah and got stuck inside a building surrounded, i managed to kill about 5-6 people trying to run in and kill me and a ran out of ammo so i grabbed an insurgent kit that had a rag instead of helmet. A couple of minutes later two US squads came to clear the area out and did a great job, but when i stick my head out the window(only head visible) to see what was going on i found myself enjoying 3 or so extra breathing holes :P :)

I'm a big fan of this bug too, it allows you to get the jump on enemies by using their gear.

Maybe when I export my kit geometries this bug might go away. :(

Yeah I had a pretty funny moment on Karbala last night.

I went up some stairs in one of the houses and came up against someone wearing a brit helmet and carrying an L85.

We just stared at each other for a good 3-4 seconds.

Then I realised he didn't have a blue name.

Needless to say I sorted him out pretty quickly.

It's useful at times, but if you're not careful, kit switching can end up being the single biggest cause of TKs. It doesn't really bother me much, because I rarely use enemy weapons. However, there were a number of times on Ramiel where I was killed by insurgents wearing USA helmets and ammo packs.

Actually, I feel this is one of the coolest little easter eggs in the release.

It can get you TK'd but it can also help you get past enemy lines. I've actually used this feature to get ignored by 2 guys in a row. I went on to take out their rally and later kill them both.

However in insurgency this feature actually makes sense, because i imagine a smart insurgent would take the gear and use it for his advantage along with the weapon.

Basically, Don't view it as a annoyance just find ways to use it against the enemy.

Heh. The funny thing is I do the same thing for illogical reasons.

An old instinct gave me the idea.

Its been a habit of mine since yee-oldie Golden Eye days. (Yes N64 FPSes.) I always go into a gunfight with a full clip. I don't care if I fired two rounds of my clip. I am reloading it.

I usually play as a medic. In old PR that meant after two or three firefights. I'm running on one-two mags. I became quite the master of kit scavenging due to that. In most cases you'd see me carrying a hostile medic's kit.

The new release comes out and my usual style has me running low on ammo. So I nip up a M16 from a fallen US soldier. I'm moving around minding my own business when my squad member opens fire and declares that a hostile is nearby. Almost at the same time I have rounds winging near me. So I'm looking for the guy and see my buddy shooting when he finally notices I'm the hostile. "You've got there helmet!"

After that I used rather effectively as an insurgent to get the drop on US troops. Its an awkward but interesting change. For people that don't like it... Just consider it PR way to make the 'Spec Ops' kit live on. You just gotta kill to request it.
