how do i install this please?

i have downloaded and unzipped the core to the same program folder as BF2 but don`t know how to go any further with the install.
I`m running vista ( bad choice) by the way.
can any one please help with DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS on how to get this working.

tried double-click the core.exe and follow the installer?

also you might need to download the levels

i dont think that you have to extract the files to the BF2 folder. try the link

ok thanks to the replys guys it is now installed but i`m getting the message
service communication failure : Pnk BstrB.exe handshaking failed
any help please.

This is a very common error. Try updating Punkbuster, and have a look at the threads about this matter here on the forums and/or elsewhere. Good luck.
