Tank Crew
Title is pretty self-explanatory.
Wasn't able to find anything on the search about this, apologies if it's already been discussed at great lengths.
Anyway is it the Devs intention for tanks to be operated by tank crews in the future as opposed to the single gunner/driver system we have now?
Personally I think it would make the use of armour vehicles somewhat more tactical, while this mod is aimed at the that type of gameplay tanks (or any armour for that matter) tend to suffer very little (possibly due to the lack of AT troops around). They can go unhindered for large amounts of time whilst mowing down troop after troop.
Obviously it's gameplay Vs. Realism debate, especially since 2 rockets (or 1 tow) can take a tank down with relative ease. But as I understand from another topic, tank armour can 'deflect' (?) rockets based on where the rocket hits (namely the front).
Armour combat has never appealed to me because it always seemed so simple and unrewarding. If a group of people worked together in a tank I beleive it would stop alot (if not all) of 'armour whore' cries since it takes genuine skill to maintain the armour and tactical thinking.
I apologise for the block of text.
If this has indeed been discussed before I apologise for wasting your time.

You need a driver + gunner + commanderto use the tank anything like effectively. If you don't - you get killed VERY quickly

Also like OFP.
Would definatley increase teamwork. My only worry is that the commander has a fairly pointless role. Id say give him some sort of skill, so as to validate his position.

America was a tad late into the First World War. They redeemed themself's and came in slightly sooner in the Second. Now they seem determined to start the Third.

No, commander mounts the .50 cal, the loader mounts a smaller loader's gun.'[R-DEV wrote:Happy']Make him reloader? The reloader IRL mans a .50 cal when he is not reloading.
There's a whole thread in the "Suggestions" section about this, however I never got any response and I'm pretty sure it's not going to be included in .3.

I wouldn't expect it to be implemented until well into the Mods lifespan, and thats assuming it can be. The BF2 engine hasn't exactly been the result of constant praise.
Either way it's simply a feature that would do alot of good, right now armour is still a rather 'cheap' method. If you want that much firepower and armour there needs to be a trade-off, and having a crew promotes teamwork, something still lacking even in PR (though to a lesser extent).

i dont see why it couldnt be done since the vod and hmmwv have seperate slots for driver and gunner what is to stop a tank from doing the same. the HUD for driver would have to be changed along with other things but i think it could work. it is a great ideaSolitas wrote:I wouldn't expect it to be implemented until well into the Mods lifespan, and thats assuming it can be. Indeed it SHOULD be relatively simple to do, considering various other vehicles already use a somewhat similar system. However, like I said the BF2 engine is, from what I've been told, a pain the a*** to use.six7 wrote:i dont see why it couldnt be done since the vod and hmmwv have seperate slots for driver and gunner what is to stop a tank from doing the same. the HUD for driver would have to be changed along with other things but i think it could work. it is a great idea
It's like using Microsoft Word when the space bar turns into delete or some such problem all because you pushed the wrong button.
Obviously it can be done, but assuming the Devs decide to I wouldn't it expect it anytime soon.
(Guarantee it will be in .3 now lol, stupid sods law)

Well unless you've tried it you can't say it won't work.Sgt. Jarvis wrote:Be forwarned fellas, won't work! Possible it is, but even on a clan server it won't be effective at all and not realistic as the driver/gunner combination.
The whole point is to ensure the crew using better teamwork will come out alive.
If this is not implemented, tanks will have to be removed altogether as the current system is to unrealistic to be included in a reality mod.
Care to explain to me how being able to drive, gun, load, and command a tank through one person is realistic? Yea, you can't.
