PR Commander's Reference App for iPod Touch/iPhone

Post by Jafar Ironclad »

So, I had a crazy idea earlier. While a commander for a private scheduled match may already know what he/she needs to know about squad names, locations, and etc, the impromptu nature of battle may overload them with information at times. Writing stuff down works, but what if one could use their iPod Touch or iPhone as a PR-tailored quick reference, which they can use in the heat of battle to call up useful/pertinent information? I imagine that such a program would be useful for a tournament commander as well.

I'm going to write a simple Java Applet to embed on an html page, which a commander could open with their web browser and use fully (so, not a TRUE java applet, though someone else is welcome to finish the programming on that front). The app could have references to various things, including stuff that a player could record into the program and keep track of, such as squad names.

Ideas I've got so far on what to implement:

A squad name record & Order tracker: Each squad number has a user-inputted squad name, squad leader name, and role. In addition, a second interface informs a standing order and a second order (which includes coordinates for some orders), which can both be modified on the fly from a set of options. Orders could include:
-Attacking capture point
-Defending capture point
-Securing area
-Attacking enemy Forward Base
-Defending Forward Base
-Regrouping/Resupplying
-Logistics: Standby
-Logistics: Committed
-Logistics: Disabled
-CAS: On station
-CAS: Engaging
-CAS: Disabled
-Transport: Extraction (Coordinate)
-Transport: Insertion (Coordinate)

Asset Availability Countdown: Team assets and Area strike have countdown timers that will run constantly and which can be reset manually (when an asset is destroyed or the area strike has been used). Assets are labelled, and their respawn times are integrated directly into the code. For example, artillery-based Area Strikes will reset to a 30 minute countdown, and Jets will reset to a 20 minute countdown. When an asset is finished, a message will pop up indicating that it's available.

Squad composition reference: User-editable reference of different squad kit/vehicle configurations for different roles. Nice for a micro-happy commander to have when determining what to have his squads go for.

Just a few of my ideas so far. Anyone else have thoughts of something they'd want to see in the program?

It sounds like a pretty cool idea but a bit useless. Its not really required to know that. This would be helpfull if PR had twice the number of players.

Now its easily manageble (I say)
