Hesco Barrier

Post by ghOst819 »

I think this would be a pretty cool idea if we had hesco barriers in game. They could help with blocking rocket or small arms attacks or a fb that is exposed rather than having tank traps around it.

Don't those things take bulldozers to build ?

More "defensives" and built before the place turns into a battlefield. So, having them placed by the mapper makes more sense.

Well since we dont have a construction company maybe they could just take longer to build(Longer shovel time).Almost all fob's have hesco barriers,so why cant we have them?

You cant fill them by hand, unless you want to spend an entire round to get 10'

I hear this said allot, I wondering what does this mean? That term get shot out but never explained.

*playing devil advocate as I tired of hear that simple explanation ;-)

What i mean is I remember the set up for Operation Peach where one team was allowed to set up around a single point. Having a hesco barrier for community stuff would be one of those things to make it seem like the structure or whatever has been there for abit longer htan 5 minutes.

Im going to bump this idea because honestly I really like it. (for a few reasons)

1. It is realistic: These things exist widely in real life and are used around the world. It is true they are typically built with a front loader, this can be worked around with one of two ways: 1. Add a front loader vechicle to the game and add it too maps where these walls would be seen (IE desert maps) That way you could control where these could be built. If the map doesnt have a front loader then it wont be available for the SL to build. Option two: Just make them take longer to be built. Maybe you could say it takes a minimum of 3 shovels to build it and those shovels have to be digging for quite a bit.

2. It will improve gameplay: Everyone knows that a firebase that comes under seige of a vehicle like an APC or Tank on a desert has very little static defense against it. Static AT cannot be built, Personnel are easily picked off from range and the Vechicles can easily shoot over barbed wire. Adding these objects to the game would make for more sustainable firebases and make it so it is not so easy to take out a FB with vehicles alone. This would make desert maps quite a bit more organic and interesting.

3: It is within the parameters of the game engine: The idea is very feasible and is basically a different version of the barbed wire.

Possible differences between the barbed wire and Hesco Barrier:
-The Hebsco will take longer to buid (possibly a front loader if someone takes the time to design that vechicle).
-The Hebsco will be able to block the line of sight towards the radio in the FOB
-The Hebsco will protect organic target from tank/apc shells and bullets etc.

and oh yah:

Front loaders in a combat zone? Seems odd, especially as the FBs in PR don't seem to represent semi-permanent FOBs, at least in my mind they don't. More suited to things like the VCP and mainbases/outposts present at the start of the map imho.

I was thinking that too. You wouldn't see these being built up in a battlefield, certainly, and would be better suited for a campaign-style RTS or TBS.

I doubt you'll ever see hesco barriers built too close to the front lines ; that's why you have sandbags.
Of course, one could fill the hesco with his shovel and bags of dirt/gravel, but that would be effing dangerous because to fill those things you need to be on top of them standing!

I've seen the engineers tip up just behind the firefights with a tipper full of Hesco cubes and the plant there to start filling and building. That's how the FOB's in Afghan are built.
