Where could/ would it be used? There are no maps currently in PR that would fit the use of the Harrier, even if it was fully working.

correct as of yet, no real maps that could use it, apart from possibly Qinling could have its 32 player layer highjacked to use it but wouldn't really fit there as well.

Some maps in development right now will make full use of the harrier ;)

Right now it just needs coding with its handling since any one who has tried to fly it on the training servers will know it hardly flys right now.

Have you worked out how the hover/normal flight modes are gonna work yet? Is it just gonna be like in training mode where there's a centre point and forward thrust is normal flight and reverse is the hover function... but in a way that works :p

Muttrah would work I think...USMC has harriers for marine CAS...

The map is just too small, the turning circle for it would be too massive for it to fit in, let alone actually land and fly it properly...

Yep correct, I did test a harrier on the map but it was just far too small even with the Harrier being much slower than most other jets.

The Cobra and Attack Huey is more than enough CAS for the map.

The Marines really need a 4x4 Beach Assault Map XD

Sweet, has anyone found a way coding it to force you to have to take off horizontally (assuming it'll have it's max payload) ? Or at least limiting the ability to hover to 5 mins?

Would be cool if they could do that, maybe add a ski jump to the carrier as well ;-)

You could have ti so that it doesn't have enough force to lift itself up fast enough, so that it'll be like choppers before warming up, and it would just tip over.

That way, you can still land it vertically, but you'd have to take off horizontally (like a true STOVL!)

I thought the only way it can do VTOL is when it doesn't have full payload? Or am I imagining things...

Well, tbh I don't know exactly which variant the model in game is supposed to be but they all have maximum take off weights between 8000 and 14000 kgs.

From what I've heard it'd be ludicrous to take off vertically with a full tank of fuel and max payload but I don't know any figures.

it also depends a lot about the climate, since if jet engines can only produce a fraction of there max power when in a cold environment.

Not much work done on the coding yet, but for game play sake we will probably allow the harrier to just take off via VTOL even with a full pay load since there is no way we can control its overall wait by if its dropped its bombs or not. So overall it will be easier to take off via the normal conventional way but will still just be possible to take off via VTOL but will be slow to get off the ground, as if we only allow the thing to drop when in VTOL it will be really hard to land it realistically.

But, can't you do what I said? give it little to no upwards vertical power, just enough to stay up/climb slowly?

The way I see it, the reason choppers tip before warming up is because they are so much more prone to tipping before they've reached max power, since they have neough to maybe lift a skid off the ground for a bit, but not more. If we implemented this with the harrier, it would be pretty much impossible to VTOL, but still possible to STOVL. Rght?

Makes sense, i like the idea. I'll be up for the challenge of landing this on the carrier :D

Well, I'll try coding it, when I get the chance :D

I want to learn how to do something useful, so why not :)
