PLEASE, Fix the CIWS Phalanx on the carrier!!!!!

I am pretty sure no one has brought this to light yet, but the AA gatling gun on the carrier is just as poor now as it is in normal BF2. The CIWS (Close In Weapons System) Phalanx gun is the 20mm gatling gun mounted on all US Navy ships to shoot down aircraft and missiles at close range.

According to the specs, it has a ready magazine capacity of 1,500 rounds, a firing rate of 4,500 rounds/min, and most importantly: a muzzle velocity of 3700 feet/sec (that's ~1,100 meters/sec).

Right now, the damage done by it is atrocious and the muzzle velocity is so low that it is extremely hard to lead a target. Please please please fix at least the muzzle velocity in the next patch!

Yeah, the damage right now is rediculous. I takes a good 4-5 second stream of direct hits to shoot down a jet with that thing. In real life the Phalanx would TEAR AN AIRCRAFT IN HALF in a fraction of a second.

Since the CIWS is firing at 4,500 rounds/min, that's 75 20mm rounds fired in just one second. I'm pretty sure that's gonna kill your plane really fast.

yea this is a problem with the heli 20mms, the tunguska, and the BH miniguns also. Needs a major boost in RoF. I know the RoF for bf2 is fixed at 1000 RPM but the damage could be 5x and you could make a traser every shot and change the sound and animation to make it appear as if it was 5000 RPM. Another big problem is the way the BH and attack chopper guns overheat in <5 seconds. They can probobly sustain at least 15 seconds of constant fire (if not more). Please, Please fix this!

This is one thing thats been annoying me too the low damage on gatling guns for crying out loud there gatling guns and they fire like more powerful m249's plus the gatling sound needs to be beefier.

I may be wrong, but I believe there is a cap on the muzzle velocity and firing speed in the BF2 engine. I'd leave it to a coder to respond to this thread for sure, however.

It is suposed to shoot down missiles but i have never heard of this in game, mabey its possable to make.
Also the Phalanx stops ship rape from constant bombing from planes.

Yes if the Phalanx and Gatling/Minguns could be beefed up a lot in terms of damage. rof and apperance tracers and so forth it would really add to the realism.

And the minigun IRL gets up to its maximum ROF in about 1/4 of a second at the longest, I heard. Takes way too long ATM

Isn't the CIWS and auto-targeting and engaging system? I remember reading that it's a basic switch on and it protects the ship automaticly from incomming threats. I know that this might not be possible in the bf2 engine but I would cut down on the carrier raping that usually happens most of the time when I'm trying to hop in a plane or helo.

I hope its beefed up, but don't expect anything more than about 1/3 or 1/2 realistic firing rate, if that. Remember that all the jets are nerfed as well, so is the phalanx. It brings up some balancing issues.

And theres those magic words balancing issues. Bring on the arguments about how realistic we want it to be. True reakistic planes would not be able to take of from the side of the carrier. Plus if we were to make everything totally realistic it would rock. But be kinda biased toward US side.

If it was overpowered, it would actually be doing its job-to dissuade planes from attacking the carrier. The same could be done at the MEC airfield using ZSU 23s and SA-2s. maybe these AA systems could be automated so the the commander controlled them from afar or soem type of bot controlled them. could be pretty awesome. Also the 20mms on the f-35b would tear a plane to shreds in about 1 second. the 20mm needs to be powered up, while the missile turninn radius need to decrease.

on one hand the jet has very little targetting assist at the moment for their non guided bomb, no CCIP, no CCRP, zip nada... no radar even and a very low firing rate gun. They also have no choice in arsenal layout.

but on the other hand they also posses nonsensical low speed tolerance and stall tolerance at the moment. Not to mention that they can takeoff with incredibly short runway, requires no refuel, can rearm by a simple fly over, the list goes on and on. So in all retrospect, they have a wee bit too much advantage if u ask me compared to what the phalanx have.

the whole system of aircraft need to be revamped. Their maximum ceiling is at liek 650 ft, they go maybe 400 mph when they say they are going 1200, the armaments are overabundant, but also unaffective. Also, the area in which one can fly is incredibly small (there is plenty of extra room, but those stupid red barriers kill me more than enemy pilots

MEC for sure need something to help protect their airfields in the way the phalanx protects US carrier. Just look at the insane amount of raping that happens on Gulf of Oman. It's incredibly cheap and one-sided.

I agree if the MEC/PLA has access to jets and the like they have acess to AA weapons. Also as soon as the miniguns/gatling 20MM's ectr can be pumped up the better also if the tracer, damage effects can be beefed up also for reference serch gatling gun on google video.
