Guided plane to ground munitions

Post by Zantetsuken »

I am such a FRICKIN-A-GENIUS!     why the hell have none of us thought of this before? I may well have the answer to putting guided munitions on planes!

however first keep in mind that this requires being able to have an inventory item the player can set down/throw and be a static object on the map

you know how on maps like Gulf of Oman the MEC have the oil towers with flames burning off excess gas, which attracts the targeting fcs for missiles on jets? why the hell not see if you can get that property on something like a smoke grenade, but without the smoke - hell smokes are already even able to disappear after a fixed amount of time, so you wouldnt have to worry about them staying on the map clogging up a ground support plane's targeting fcs on the hud

a second generation of this could be the smoke grenade/targeting system modded to have an extremely high throw force, so that it acts more like a gun, basically it would be a targeting laser

I think if this could work, it would make whichever class it would be given to INSANELY more useful on maps with air support (people flying, not commander actions) - IRL I would think Specops/Recon would be most likely to get equipment like this, but as is, that ones really geared towards infantry fighting...

either way, the greatest thing about this is it would give planes the ability to lock onto ground targets dynamically chosen (not predetermined points), and that it takes teamwork (a guy on the ground, and a guy in the plane) to make it work!

Holy **** you may be on to something.... Have like a target designator with so many charges that would cause an invisible flame on the vehicle that has been spotted...... OMG, this might work....

We are looking at some sort of target designation mechanism for a future release. B2 1.3 and Armored Fury is introducing "scout helicopters" which may include finishing off the target designation system already partially complete in BF2.

Failing that... this is an interesting suggestion.

Maybe you could give SpecOps class an Infrared strobe for night maps. I dont know if its possible but, when you threw it at the target it would show up to aircraft in the area so they know where to shoot. I like the laser designator idea, I'm pretty sure theres already one in the game hidden in files somewhere but I dont know for sure. Thoughts?

i say the class system need some serious changin, all this new equipment giving to slightly unrealistic classes, eg. spec opps are not only ones to have m4.

iNSURGENCY i think have quite an interesting one!

as I said, the one you talked about throwing would be the first generation of what I described - the "smoke grenades", with the second generation of the system maybe evolving into laser designators

A laser designator could work well. It'd basically be a rifle with unlimited ammunition firing at a target doing no damage with no recoil and giving the target the effect of being "heated up". I hope I'm right in thinking that's going to work, because if it is, yes that will be quite something. The thing is, with the absence of bombers, how is it going to work? It'd only really work for the coopilot's targetting system, otherwise pilots would be forced to do crazy divebombs at targets with their missiles, which could get messy with the low lock on rates. I sure hope this sort of thing works, it'd definetely give this mod an edge over others. :)

i had an idea a while ago to have laser designaters create the green sqaures that vehicles produce in BF2 that bombers see.

If you ask me I'd kick the jets out of the game, but would probably keep helicopters. It's all about reality and jets as depicted in BF2 make me sick.

I'm talking as IL-2 fan(atic) and to a lesser extent LOMAC sympatizer. Wanna have flying things + reality - then play IL2 or LOMAC. BF2 sucks big time when it comes to flight modelling. Destroys the immersion instantly when I see a jet in BF2.
