Increased draw distance on some maps...

Post by Cerberus »

I think it would be nice if the draw distance on maps (primarily the urban ones) was increased. At the moment, you can't even see from the south side of the tower at the square to the south side of Karkand.

Yep draw distance is rediculous. There is no point to use the sniper rifle because the draw distance doesn't even come close to outreaching the effective distance of the m4. If you can see it, you can kill it, basicly

~Another huge pet peve of mine is when I'm looking in a certain direction and there are no enemies, but as soon as I look down my ironsights, I get major pop-ups. It is very irritating to be shot at and only be able to see the person once you aim down your sights (at this time your usually dead ;) )

I agree the draw distance could be better on urban maps. However, I only notice this in the Kark maps and Mash. I put this down to 'dust' as you would expect in a middle-eastern city with troops, jeeps, explosions going on all over the place, lots of sand kicking up etc. Also, we already have to worry about people on roof tops and bullets coming at you from 360 degrees, if the draw distance was longer then you'd have to worry about the sniper set-up 4 blocks away!! Fun for them but not for the rest of us.

The draw distance has an affect on a computer's performace and how well it runs a map on BF2. Everyone has different specs. There are arguments for and against giving people with better systems the ability to see further than someone who has an average computer, and there's arguments for and against limiting players with decent comps to the levels of **** ones.

You can already limit the distance in the video options, so why not extend it more?

oi dirty it might not be too fun getting shot from 4 blocks away by a sneaky sniper but it adds realism...to be honest you should clap the guy if hes shooting at you from miles away and manages to get a decent put down hit

I'm not talking about increasing the draw distance to a kilometer.

I agree, but some people would get a huge performance hit. Just look at Steel Thunder.

For maps like oasis with few objects, it would be a great idea.

yeah the problem boils down to unfairness if crappy system guys can only have 50% of the draw distance of the high system players then it is very unfair.

On Mashtuur, you can barely see guys on the Hotel when you're on the Mosque... and it's only 97 meters away!

The funny thing is you can actually see rather well if you turn to the side and look at the far left of right of your screen. you can seen about 2x further and there is very little fog. just turn to your side to see enemies, then spray and pray with the saw ;)

If you really want people to be turned away from this mod mainly because of lag, this is the way to go.

Did you see how manny people got pissed off at EA when they made Bf2:SF lag?

Really, this mod would get very bad reviews ect if there lag for this mod is much worse than BF2. And the way its going, it might be like that but most people seem to not have a problem with lag, only afew people.

The sniper rifles suck any way. The M249 is more accurate than the sniper kits.

i think the problem is that the draw distance is a performance limitation.

while some want it longer, some would never be able to handle a further distance.

to accomodate this, perhaps the snipers can get some help that doesnt rely on having an uber powerful graphics card
