I love Project Reality. At first I just thought of it as an infantry game. So far, I've spent 95% of my time only playing in AAS or Insurgency mode, in infantry or armour squads, using VOIP and trying to win. In that retrospect, PR is an awesome game and it never gets old or repetitive like other games.
Lately, I've discovered that there was a whole 'nother dimension to this game that seems to be a bit neglected. That is: the jets.
I played around in the training server a lot yesterday and spent time learning all the ins and outs of flying, and while I think there are some bugs to be ironed out, overall the balance of jets and infantry in PR is the best balance I've ever seen in a sand box game (or ever). The jets are deadly if used probably but can turn into flying steel coffins pretty fast if you goof up or if you fly too low over some well placed enemy AA.
My question is about the availability of flying in maps. Generally, public servers rarely run jet maps (not that there are many to choose from) and when servers do run them, it's such an oddity that no one really takes them seriously (nobody on the ground lazes targets).
I was wondering, will jets would become more or less prevelant in PR maps in the future?
I don't think jets belong in every map, of course, but it would nice to see them in every other map or just semi-regularly on public servers. I know it is "up to the server" but I think part of the reason they aren't run very often is because their simply aren't enough jet maps. Every once and awhile the GIB AAS server will run Kashan, but aside from that I've never seen another public server run a map that had jets in it.
Will there be more jet-friendly maps in the future?!

To keep it simple - yes.
To be more direct, the more 4km maps that are created, the more jets youll see in PR.
Jets will never be added to a 2km map as they are just too small for them.
Thankfully a whole slew of 4km maps are under developement for v0.9 (however that doesnt mean they will all have jets in them).
In order to be effective/not spammy/fun, a map for jets requires large area and large view distance.

Sangin should be just that extra bit awesome due to having fast air support.
I prefer the idea of asymmetrical CAS maps, as pilots will spend more time helping out their team on the ground rather then fighting/avoiding other jets.
Personally there's nothing really fun about dogfighting in PR, or anything that involves lock on missiles and flares.

Good point, and another reason for that being how unrealistic it is for two opposing armies to have functional airports supplying fighter aircraft within 4km of each other. Jets already in the air, sure. Helicopters, possibly. An airbase? I think not.Snazz wrote:Sangin should be just that extra bit awesome due to having fast air support.

Only one team should have jet support.

Will there be jets on both sides per your plan?Or will there be jets only on Coalition side?[R-DEV]fuzzhead wrote:To keep it simple - yes.
