Sniper Range Finder - Eliminates Sniper Rifle inaccuracy
One of the things that really bugs me about the sniper rifles in BF2 is the way that accuracy is dealt with. As it is, when firing over a long distance your bullet will not land where you're aiming. As I understand it, and I might be wrong, there are two things that affect where your bullet will land: First, there is a fundamental bullet-deviation that randomly places your bullet somewhere near the center of the reticule, but rarely the exact center. Second, there is a slight bullet-drop. Both of these are greatly pronounced when firing over a long distance.
This pisses me off when I play the sniper class because I often miss a player when my recticule is right on top of him. I've never been able to adjust for the bullet-drop because I can't tell where my shot lands if I miss, and with the random deviation you never know if your not aiming high enough or if you just randomly missed. Missing as a sniper due to random deviation and bullet drop is just the most annoying thing ever. What's the point of having a reticule at all if you know there's a good chance your bullet won't even land there over any kind of distance appropriate to a sniper?
So here's my suggestion. I think snipers should be equipped with a range-finder. When a sniper uses the range-finder, he takes a moment to adjust his sniper rifle. When he's done, the random bullet deviation and bullet-drop are eliminated from his rifle. The sniper must be prone to do this, and if gets up or moves any great distance the effect is eliminated. The process should take like 8 seconds to accomplish.
What do you think?

they have range finders on the tanks, i dont see why snipers can get range finders on their binocs. i also think it would be nice for the sights on sniper rifles to be changed so each notch is 100 yards or something like that.

Personally, I think this is a great idea. It's not quite necessary on maps such as Karkand and The Mash, but I've been in engagements on Zatar and Clean Sweep in which I've experienced bullet drop.

Being able to toggle ranges like that would be cool as well.
In that case, the devs wouldn't need to "turn off" bullet-drop. All they would need to do is move the scope sights up or down a tiny bit for each distance setting and disable random bullet deviation.
For the sights to be accurate, someone would have to actually test how much bullet drop there is at each distance. It would be impossible make an accurate judgement without having random-deviation turned off, so the devs would have to do it I suppose. Did that make sense?

Well the M24 is screwed up, but none of the other sniper rifles have a random cone of fire.
Same with all the other weapons; the only reason they deviate is because of recoil, not some random *** cone of fire. Your first shot will be dead on, but after that it becomes inaccurate because of recoil -- realistic!
Keep in mind though, there IS bullet drop.
Off topic, but are you the same Skeletor from eBaumsworld forums?

All I know is that missing with a sniper rifle is not fun, and I seem to miss a lot at long distances.

All it'll take is to put a rangefinder in the binoculars and proper markings on the scopes. You pull out your binocs, judge the target range, pull out your rifle, compensate for distance and fire. Or, if you have a spotter he spots targets and tells you the range to make it easier.
Hey, how do we know this isn't in 0.3?

Has anyone played America's Army? I realy like how they did sniper rifles. Instead of increasing random deviation in different positions, they had scope sway. Standing=much sway, kneeling=some sway, prone=minimal sway. If a rifle had a bipod (like the m24), when prone and "H" was pressed, it was deployed and eliminated all scope sway. but limited your field of fire to ~120 degrees around. Even when there was no sway, there was still breathing. When the player inhaled, the scope inched up slightly, and when the player exhaled, it sank. As PR becoems slower and slower gameplay wise, features liek this would be very welcome if we wish to have legitimate snipers stay realistic.
Off topic, another thing in liek about AA is the ironsights. They are slightly faded around the edges giving the illusion of focus rather than zooming in. They are slightly transparent also giving the feeling of looking through two eyes instead of one. It is an amazing feature that I would love to see in PR.

some body know Joint operations they have all so a good sultion for the sniper range... you can use your binoculars for messger the range and then you have to hold and and scroll on your mouse for the right range like 50m , 100m, 200m, all the wat up too 800m... maby this is a idea
i'll @ some pictures of it and for every body who can read german you might like this: http://www.joint-operations.de/faq/snipen.html ( For the sniper problem )
