Project Reality is the best mod i have ever played for BF2, but as far as the flying goes, i am sorry to announce that it is VERY inaccurate, i realise your dev's work very hard at making a good fun mod, but one thing that kills it for me and alot of other people is the realism.

The Sound Barrier or speed of sound is 1,236 KM/H
I have seen some guys from the [GS] clan get the AH-7 to over 2,000 KM/H which is nearly mach 2. Anything above the speed of sound in the AH-7 would rip the rotor blade off, and rip the cockpit systems apart rendering the helicopter useless. Also, the maximum speed of the AH-7 in REALITY is 324 KM/H. Anything much above this speed would put to much stress and G force on the aircraft thus damaging its airframe.

The UH-60 Blackhawk maximum speed in real life is 357 KM/H. Ingame i see all sorts of pilots keep it on about 540 KM/H on average level flight.

--The F-16, also known as the Fighting Falcon, has a stall speed of 278 KM/H. And ingame it stalls out at 360 KM/H.

--Also, posts were made a while back about adding the F-117 as a bomber which could shoot TV-Guided Missles like in vanilla, and you guys (dev's) said that the F-117 is the size of a B-52. With that being said, i am going to point out some very minor differences between the B-52 and the F-117 nighthawk

Some of that is hard coded and some cant be done as the game engine isnt capable

Welcome to the forums Spartanhunter7, glad your enjoying our mod

First of all, if your taking these speeds off of the speed meter on the HUD of a jet/chopper, dont. The speed meter on them means nothing, we are not sure what it represents hehe. There is also no way of changing that we know of, hardcoded into the engine.

The only way to find out the real speed of something ingame is to simply run it over 100m and time how long it takes to travel from one end to the other, and that is really it.

At the moment we have no one really working on tweaking our jets / choppers so its unlikely many changes will be made to there physics any time soon, unless of course you want to help with coding them

As for the F-117, they are really not used directly in supporting battles, more for just strategic bombing.

The BF2 speed meter does not properly display speeds, so you are not really going that fast, the display is wrong.

What's more, the F-117 was retired from service last year; PR is set roughly in the 'near future', the F-117 is not a likely candidate for inclusion into the mod.

Isn´t the speed on the hud at the moment something like 2.5/3x more than real life? I think someone worked it out a while ago.

One thing I have found out by playing with helicopter handling is that the speed doesn´t seem to mean anything, sometimes it can say 600km/h yet it is moving much slower than the helis in pr atm at 600km/h, if that makes sense. I think I even reached 1300km/h in the apache with it covering the same distance as normal PR apache, its just somewhat random. Maybe I am just seeing things wrong but its quite weird.


Like wise the BH was moving at level flight maybe 450km/h yet covering what seemed like the same distance at the same speed as the 590km/h PR BH.

Also, with the F-117 gone, ok, but while were using near future weapons 'masaq', then why dont you guys get rid of the M-16A2/A4 that army uses, and move to the SCAR-L/H, being as in all, the army is moving to it in the near future. and also to you masaq, if it is so called in the near future, then why the hell are there still UH-1's in the game? what the hell... Because the USMC are and will continue to be using UH-1 variants up until the year 2020!

At this point in the mods history, it's based in the present/very near future but all equipment is representing that which is currently in use.

Pretty much all the speeds of aircraft are wrong in PR. It's impossible to actually tell what they should be, short of timing yourself with an attack marker.

Also the F-117 would be nice, but it wouldn't have any of its advantages that it normally would have. We don't have radar, or any night maps, so it wouldn't really do anything any other plane can't do by itself.

a quick look on wikipedia suggests Spartans claim is not entirely accurate, it appears the SCAR-L will only be replacing the M4 and then only in Spec Ops forces. with the SCAR-H replacing the M14.

The Mk 16 Mod 0 will be replacing the M4A1, the Mk 18 CQBR and the Mk 12 SPR currently in SOCOM service. The Mk 17 Mod 0 will replace the M14 and Mk 11 sniper rifles.

It will be replacing the M4A1 in SOCOM service, yeah. As for front-line grunts, I don't see any change coming for quite a while.

And remember that the game is only trying to be realistic within the confines of the BF2 engine. And the confines from a game made to be fun offcourse.

That's why there is such a thing as spawning on firebases, and collaborators and "repair crates". They simulate a part that can't or shouldn't be emulated.

There has been talk of the replacement of the M16/M4 series of weapons forever. Yet we still have the same M16/M4 weapons. I don't think we'll get new weapons for a good long time.

Hehe, thanks for mentioning the GS name spartan, our heli pilots can do anything with those Helicopter, i DO agree with you spartan i wish to they could atleast make the HUD correct, i do agree with them on the F-117 it is a little outdated, Also to the devs i just wanted to say keep up the GREAT work everyone loves your hard work with this mod, i hav a question, u guys did good on the heli losing control after taking a rocket, i think u guys need to improve that, make it start spinning or something, make it harder to blow up the helis, but also make it easier to make them lose control it would add to the excitement. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!
