disableing a tank

Post by thecoolj85 »

would it be possible to disable a tank with a lat just disable it make it imoble because in all fairnes if you get a shot with your at4 at the t72's top turet from a roof it should disable it or atleast make it imoble. it be nice to see that happen. as inf you are at thier mercy. so is it possible to do with the bf2 engine

Use HAT if you plan on tank hunting. Otherwise if you can't kill it, leave it alone or it will kill you.

i dont want to kill the tank i just want it disabled if you manage to hit it on the top part it deserves to be disabled. or hit it in the tracks or something like that cuz thats what happens in real life if you hit an abrams in the tracks with an rpg more than likley it will not be able to move.

We realize this; however, with the LAT like the AT4 shouldn't it still be possible in reality that if you aim for the tracks or whatnot, the explosive round will still damage or disable the tracks? The tank will obviously be fine as a whole with the turret, but the tracks would be damaged a bit. This might be something cool to add if possible.

You are already able to disable a tank if you hit it with enough LAT.

As far as I know the BF2 engine has a hard time with hitpoints on objects. Use the search function for more info.

Tirak's tincan copy n' paste hammer will disable this thread.

It is already possible to disable the turret and tracks but its all very random. iirc the weapon has to at least do a certain amount of damage and then its all down to random chance. Also iirc the engine is hardcoded against anything beyond this like simply hitting the tracks with a LAT near guaranteeing a disable as the engine makes it all down to chance.

2 ways this could be achieved. First you could beef up the LAT. Second you could lower the hitpoints required to put the tank into a disabled state. Either one will have major effects on the rest of the weapons and vehicles.

Shoot it in the rear.... that is the most vulnerable place on the tank.

Scenario, qwai river.

You are a US infantry squad making your way through the hills near the village. A tank is driving slowly along the road to one of the bridges to cross. You are armed with standard squad layout and a LAT. What do you do?

1) Ignore the tank, hide, when it is gone continue to your objective.

2) Be leet and try to engage the tank with LAT, realise the amount of failure committed and start shooting at it with rifles and grenade. Whole squad gets wiped out.

3) Ignore the tank, hide, report to your team the heading and position of it so the TOW humvees can engage, and then continue on your way.

If you answered 1 or 3, you are somewhere on the right track.

GoreZiad, the hammer is made of Iron, Iron and Chuck Norris.

thecoolj85,
Disabling vehicles is already in game. The problem, as several people in this thread alluded to, is the system is very random. Once a tank's health falls below a certain level however, there is a chance it will lose one, or both tracks, and the main turret can also be taken off line. As the feature is already in game this thread is locked.
