Do any of you Gentlemen have some suggestions for Books I could purchase that will help me up the steep hill that is the 3dsMax "Learning Curve".

These were a couple I found on Amazon..

Amazon.com: Introducing 3ds Max 9: 3D for Beginners: Dariush Derakhshani, Randi Lorene Munn, Jon McFarland: Books

Amazon.com: 3ds Max Modeling for Games: Insider's Guide to Game Character, Vehicle, and Environment Modeling: Andrew Gahan: Books

My focus will be developing buildings and simple objects for Project Reality.
I have seen alot of useful links in the Tutorial Section, but to begin with I need a rudementary understanding of the program.

Thanks for your suggestions..
Move this post if necessary, I could not think of a better thread to put it in.

most of the books I've seen teach you a lot about max, but not a lot that is relevant to graphic design for games. I can tell you not to buy "Introducing 3DS MAX 2008", it wasn't all that useful for the price

You are much better of taking tutorials imho.
I only have one book on modeling, and it is not even for 3ds max (which I use).

I will edit in the standard response I give to all people who want to start learning max for the purpose of making game models.

I will dig up a few good ones that helped me out when I started out.

Here we are:

Creating a weapon for Source "Glock tutorial"

Part 1: modeling the weapon
Creating a Weapon for Source tutorial - Mod DB

Part 2: unwrapping and texturing the weapon
Creating a Weapon For Source - Part 2 tutorial - Mod DB

Part 3: rigging, animating and importing into Source engine
Creating a Weapon for Source - Part 3 tutorial - Mod DB

Alternative modeling vid "Beretta tutorial"
Beretta 9000 Video Tutorial tutorial - Mod DB

Small beginner vids. Anoying video player but some good ones for beginning and understanding 3ds max.
Free 3d Max video tutorials from video-tutes.com

Other than that I can recommend using autodesks own tutorials. they have some long .pdf's on a lot of subjects.

General questions and problems are frequently asked here in this forum so feel free to post pics and ask if you run into problems.

Good hunting :)
