PRMM 0.3 Feedback Thread - Initial Impressions?

Post by eggman »

Hey Guys,

Thought I'd kick off a thread to gather in initial impresions and feedback. No need to post any kind of "awesome love it thanks" stuff.... and also no need to post "you guys suck because it doesn't run on my 64mb video card"....

Looking for some constructive insights & first impressions, favorable and things that need improving.

Thanks!

egg
EDIT: I would like to see respondents also provide a: Best/Worst of .3

Example:

Best: Addition of the Mk12 SPR and P226
Worst: Some issue, or item you don't like or want to see improved.

M24 on SaK needs to change to mk-12 :-D

And Sever needs to be more clear about what game type it is...

Other than that... LOVE IT... Won't get much sleep tonight :-D

we need BIG FAT RED letters in the maploading screen, that tell the noobs: extraction, or single objective!

two things that must be tweaked..

the spawntime of the jeeps in the extraction mode should be equal with the SUV ones. with these long spawntimes now, there is no usefull konvoi possible after the humvee´s are the first time destroyed! :(

you have to take out the artillery in single objective mode. its too easy to destroy the UAV and the radar with the ari...

and one last thing, i dont like the night maps. they are complete useless. just the same maps with no view. or with green view ;)

Well I am a dev and a player (it's actually being a player that got me into dev).

I played tonight and:
best:
1. maps, man these are some good maps!
2. 6 seat jeeps, filled entirely with squad members, on a big map where you have time to shoot the sh*t hehe
3. getting totally lost on jabal, man that's a huge map
4. realising that we are going in the right direction with the scoring system, I got a lot of points for very "heroic" teamwork activities, low kill count but maintined a good survival ratio
5. I found that even on a fairly crowded server there was a good sense of teamwork, so we're going in the right direction there as well; yer (relatively) very inneffective on your own

worst:
1. players who spend 8 hours downloading a mod and then condemn it after 5 minutes as "st00p1d". Gotta give the learning curve a chance.
2. time running out before we could get onto the carrier on jabal

Really, really enjoyed myself playing 0.3 for an hour or so tonight, hope others are too!

Outstanding release. I played for about 6 hours tonight, and loved every minute of it.

Best: New game modes. They rock. Single objective is great. Extract is even better, though a little short. It also requires really good teamwork from the US to pull off an extraction. Or luck.

Worst: Not enough info both on the loading screens and in game as to what game mode is playing and what is required which lead to a lot of confusion tonight on GH. Though Sharqi night was funny, we played for about 20 mins as AAS before my team realised it was SOBJ and proceeded to blow the hell out of the assets. Doh.

The Mk12 rocks....good job on that. But I don't quite understand the point of the armored SUV (Suburban). Private security contractors use these as convoy transports in Iraq, and some as gun trucks that have a rear firing port usually with a man armed with a SAW or something. The in game version only has room for a driver and one single passenger and the passenger cannot fire a weapon. Add the fact that it is the same speed as a HMMV, and it just seems kind of useless. Add room for 2 more passengers plus a rear facing gunman that can use his rifle, up the top speed a bit, and I think it would be a winner. Not quite as tough as an HMMV, no mounted .50 cal, but faster and easier to manuever. Perfect extract vehicle.

Get a convoy of 4 Suburbans going in an extraction game and some MEC's in technicals and jeeps to chase them down and you've got a fun game. Can we say roadside ambush? ;)

Very first impressions, based on my ~30 minutes of playing:

Pros:
+The new weapons and tools (binocular, spec-ops rangefinder) look and "feel" good.
+The classes are now very well balanced up.
+The new scoring system is very good.
+Bug fixes.
+A new gamemode. (Didn't play it that much though)
+Good new maps.

Cons:
-AAS. It's still there, and it's still bad.
-Nothing has been done to correct one of the biggest issues the game: The so-called insta-proning.
-C4. Seems to have been nerfed even more than it was in 0.25 . Next to useless as an ambush weapon, it got a B-movie beeping sound, alerting everyone within meters that "They set us up the bomb!"
-Defibrillators. They still take away from both realism and gameplay.
-Where's my Saiga? :(

Jabal needs more choppers. MEC need 1 transport chopper 2.

xtract mode needs hummer respawn times same as SUV. Really anoying thing that encorages the wall trained "n00b" to take the SUV and RUN!

m24 on karkand.

mash 16 has afew bugs for some really odd reason i thought where fixed....
invisibal car wrecks and no inner borders for it.

on xtract its really hard for USMC to get past some of the bottle necks...

6 seats jeeps worked EXSTRAMLy well. 1 of the best new features if you ask me. Squads could stick together!

Downloading now. Will post feedback tomorrow evening.

From my previous experience with PRMM was excellent, so I probably wont be disappointed. :)

also to add yo my list.

the new squad leaders having to call for the arty is really nice. It really makes a good sence of teamwork even thou i still would love to see full player controled arty but this is goo for now!

Think i might just keep arty on my server, or for the 32+ maps anyways like steel thunder ;)

wo! 0.3 is awesome!

played "only" 3 hours and everything seems to be ok, except the AAS flag order on Jabal 64. US forces have to split to two different directions at the beggining...

Yeah I like it tho I'm not 100% sure about the night maps, especially with the extraction mode. I played 3 games and they were finished within a minute.

The new scoring systems wicked. I'm pants at BF2 in general and somehow I died 6 times killed 3 and ended up with something like 63 points. :-)

I'm looking forward to playing this over the weekend. I like the new style map descriptions as well.

Good work so far.

With 20 to 32 guys you should be able to take 2 undefended CPs at once ;)

Whole point of that was to require some co-ordination to dispatch 2 squads to seperate objectives... it's why we brought the commander back by default :p

Wasn't sure about the xtract on night maps heh.... just thought we'd give it a try cuz it was easy to do :)

Having arty by request only is kinda nice. Wish we could alter the characteristics (reload time, barrage length, time to target, etc). It also does make taking out the arty useful, so lone wolves can head "behind the lines" and take it out, bit like vBF2. Can't remember what I set the points score for that to heh.

Supplies too!

1 negative : On Xtract it would be nice to be able to spot the SUV. Sort of like if you spot a sniper just as "Enemy Spotted" it will display a sniper, I think the same should be done with the SUV.

I only played for an hour last night but really enjoyed it so far.

You can instantly feel the 'teamwork' if you know what I mean, everyone seems to work togther better. Also, there was a real sense of acomplishment playing as medic, as you know you've only got 6 revives and the spawn times are long so it's like every life counts out there. I loved the new pistol and silenced rifle too, nice models. Engi SMGs were good too, although I will miss the shotties. And there was a real lack of Support gunners thanks to the lack of ammo packs, I only saw 1 SAW the whole time which is good.

I only played 1 new map, the chinese one, I forget the name, but it had a Songa Stalemate feel to it, really liked it. My favorite thing has to be the nades, I love the slowed down animation, very realistic, as though you are 'aiming' your throw and it will cut down on spamming.

Bad things? I couldn't tell what games were being played as everything was Conquest on the multipler tab. Is there a way to tell if the server is running Extracion of Single Objective without guessing? Also, I didn't like the timed C4 you've given the spec ops. It's too easy for me to put C4 on the tank and then have the tank drive near to team-mates and have then TK'd, I think triggered was better as you had control over when it detonated. Also, I threw the engi C4 pack on a tank, the tank reversed and the C4 pack was stuck in mid-air, but I guess that might just be a wee bit of lag? And claymores for engi? Kinda strange IMO as I can't see any use for them other than spamming. An engineers isn't going to be camping on a roof top like a sniper would so he can't use them to defend himself.

Looks brilliant from what I've seen, can't wait to get on for a proper session tonight. Well done developers.

The maps will 'look' different, capable flags will appear/disappear. Also, when your loading in it should tell you the game type.

I love the release, but there are a couple of things that need to be changed, 1st the granade delay is too long and the medic delay as well. Besides that i think everything is great.
