Project Reality longevity
Hello,
I know this is not on horizon yet. However, I am wondering what will happen to PR if EA/DICE shut down the master servers or even the punkbuster support. Is there any exit plan for PR, without involving the port into another engine?
I guess not, for the servers will not shut down in the next years to come. Still, I thought it might be interesting to know what the developers think about it.
ps 0.85 is a great improvement over 0.8! Great job!

At the moment, Battlefield 2 is the seventh most played online game according to xfire. No way that they would shut it down

There are a lot of baseless rumors flying about that claim the "evil" EA will shut down BF2 servers. If 1942 servers are still running to this day, why take down a newer game's servers?
I'm not sure if Punkbuster's going anywhere either. For the most part, I think we BF2 and PR players are safe.

I rly doubt they would just pull the plug on BF2, too many people play it and its probably rakeing the money in for EA...

I bet, like 1 year after PR 2 has been released, then EA will start considering closing down the BF 2 servers.
Cuz everyone moved on to PR 2

True, and they probably give some of their money to mr EA for being allowed to broadcast the game or smt.

PR on a new engine would mean F4S7R0P3S and (possibly, if it's open source) the absence of all hardcodedness. The only restraints would be time and effort.

Re: Project Reality longevity
Let's see....if we stick away from EA Games and go to another game...and look for open-source games...then we are left with games like Combat Arms....arghhh! Maybe, if the Devs COULD, they could make their own engine? (I guess it would have been already looked at....)
My only other guess would be something like Brother's in Arms. I mean, they have a great ordering system. If you could unleash that.....

Just out of curiosity, why are people so worried about the future of PR?

No. Xfire doesn't really support mods. Only mods that later became full fledged games are truly supported but I may be wrong. (i.e. Portal) If you use Xfire while playing PR, it will say you are playing BF2. It's the reason I put "Project Reality 0.85"in as a custom status.bloodthirsty_viking wrote:i bet if everyone played with x-fire on while playing pr, pr would overtake wow...
And not to mention...
WoW = Millions of players
PR = couple thousand(?)

I'd say because its one of the best/coolest games out there, you made a ton of online friends here and enjoy playing this game. Would be a shame to see it disapear.eztonia wrote:Just out of curiosity, why are people so worried about the future of PR?
