Sometimes the information being passed by the SL's isn't enough for the commander to have a good idea of what is happening on the battlefield and be able to command it.
So even thought i totally agree with the current method that forces the commander to be in his command post to have access to his screen, i think it could be improved.
If possible, make so that every Forward Outpost (Firebase) is enterable (like the command post) so that the commander can have access to his screen while being closer to the battle zone. This allows him to see for himself if needed but also puts him in more danger. The Command Post will still exist as it is now in game.
If you think that the FB is too exposed for him to be in, you can always bring back the bunker and make so it can be deployed next to a FB by the commander, to serve as a forward command post.
Feedback is welcomed.

ya, they could maybe make it where thats an asset that can be placed.'[wow wrote:titan;1017899']thats like in FH2

This might be kind of unrealistic but like on Karbala or something he could be on top of a hotel and if someone needs help, the commander could pull out binoculars and search area because its a high position.
Then the commander would have a view of everything without having something thats too hardcoded

Dont like this idea to be honest for two main reasons. First reason it wont matter as i barely see commanders anyway and secondly i think it will make a few people go commander hunting.

I'm not a huge fan of this idea personally; I like the idea of commander mobility but at the same time I recognize what the devs are trying to achieve with its current incarnation [which I also tend to agree with]. I am of the opinion that the single biggest incentive to bringing commanders back to the battlefield is some sort of mobile command post [say logistics trucks] and removing the ability for SLs to place assets without a commander. The removal of the commander requirement for assets was, in my opinion, one of the bigger detractors from organized pub play (since I commanded a lot back in 0.5->0.7).

From someone that was part of the PRT, you should know better not to base your comment only on public playing.Cheditor wrote:Dont like this idea to be honest for two main reasons. So what if people go commander hunting? Im not saying that you will win any tickets with it and you probably won't even know if he is using his CP or the FO's or even if there is a commander.

Re: Forward Command Post
I'd personally be more in favor of giving the commander a command vehicle that only he can drive. Something like an unarmed command APC. Smart commanders wouldn't drive those into the middle of combat anyway, but could still use them to get out of main.
I certainly don't want the commander deploying anything that needs to be shoveled. I'm glad that was removed from PR a while back. Nothing more annoying than a commander who works on his own little project, even if it's one bunker, while the rest of the team coordinates actual attacking by itself.
Also, I'd rather not have any penalties for the commander dying. If he gets killed, that should be it. He respawns 30 seconds later and gets into the static command post. Forcing the commander to pay more attention to his own personal safety than to coordinating the team would be detrimental to his ability to do any useful commanding.

Never said there would be any penalty for th CO dying and he can still command in the safety of his CP. He doesn't need to build anything, the squads will.daranz wrote:I'd personally be more in favor of giving the commander a command vehicle that only he can drive. The idea is to give him an alternative that allows him to be in the battlefield if needed while still be able to command even if in more danger of getting killed. It's up to him to decide.

Re: Forward Command Post
In the very earlier patches the commander had the ability to place command posts wherever he chose and it diddn't work out that well as the enemy would hunt them down and destroy them disabling the ability to place FB's or bunkers. Also the commander would get killed a lot attempting to place the command posts in hostile zones.
It's not a bad idea, it's just wouldn't work to the advantage of the team. Infact would be a more disadvantage.

Re: Forward Command Post
I guess my first post didn't explained this before so i just added it since im a bit tired of saying this in replies but:
My idea does not replace the command post, it will continue to exist as it is now in game in the main base of each map. This proposal simply adds the possibility for the CO to access his screen in FB's as he does in his CP, allowing him to move forward in the secured battlefield and command from there.
