Helicopters needs an overhaul

Post by Duke-Nukem »

I am new to this mod but I have seen things that should be corrected.
The climb speed should be increased on all helicopters. Also when you fly the littlebird and you need to pull the collective stick it respond too slow with the result of a hard landing or a crash if you try to avoid obstacles.

Keep up the good work on this mod.

I have noticed the Little Bird's handling is... less than perfect lets say. I saw a pilot crash a LB into the floor earlier and it didn't explode, the passengers just got out and ran away.

Little bird/ground collision is not correct at this time.

This was brought up in testing but was decided we should give you the mod and change it in the future.

The problem stems from the resolution of the old problem with the collision mesh which used to make the bird wobble and take damage on takeoff.

i remember that it was like it had been glued to the ground.

One think i hate in BF2 is that you cannot hover in a helicopter (Unless you keep pressing accelerate witch takes a bit of concentration and the gunner cannot aim properly with the bobbing).

Hover Key / Standard Hover ftw!

The little bird is very fast in real life! They actually slowed it down so it would not snap the necks of pilots and crew. And I once heard from a black hawk pilot that the Hawk responds just as fast as the little bird but takes a little bit longer to slow down. If you want to see these things fly I have video that we took from both and even the chinook. But realism is what were after right?

i agree, remember when eve of destruction came out for bf1942? they introduced an incremental throttle system for the choppers that was very cool and made hovering very possible. bfvietnam also had this ..... i think

yes, i could get a joystick with throttle control, but i've spent too long perfecting my keyboard piloting skills.... i still suck in airplanes though.

Its easy to control but you keep going down little by little and its anoying when you are being shot at, trying to keep the thing level for the gunners and looking for threats and targets at the same time and pressing accelerate so oftern is just anoying rarther than skillfull.

I preffer transport helicopters myself because i hate queing up and i can get a load of guys in at once, also if i go down i can rely on more tan just my gunner.

Flying without a joystick is silly. Keyboards have two modes, full throttle or nothing. My joystick (bottom of the line) has a "Z Axis" which is basically a little wheel that can be rolled backwards and forwards, controlling the throttle. I can go fast, slow, medium, anything I like. It gives you a huge edge in flying choppers because you can put the wheel in the middle and hover. It gives you a huge edge in dogfighting against keyboard users, while they can only chase at full speed you can decrease your speed to lose them, then increase when you need it without having to cut the engines completely. Seriously, get a joystick, you'll be surprised by how naturally easy it is to fly.

i still don't understand how ppl control aircraft and gunships with keyboards, controlling it with keyboard is so stiff it feels like playing an FPS with a gamepad. And after playing BF2 with my saitek + the throtte handle for over a year i've never had problem with hovering in place.

I think little bird needs twist much faster, it takes forever to turn 180º, it feels like a a big black hawk. It's impossible to make acrobatic turns and hover down streets like in Dc or bfv.

The Problem of steering a Helicopter with a Joystick is you have a delay until you can change the rotating direction etc. With the mouse it is much faster and more precise. But there is the thing with the throttel..
anyway i prefer pressing the up-key often an having a better handling with my mouse than beeing abled to hover and not beeing abled to make very fast direction-changes
