We need a Mumble only server (when it's out of PR beta)
I'd love to see a game server where in-game coms were off and people were forced to use mumble. Course right now the idea would likely not work well what with there still being kinks in the PR beta version, but once mumble has been fooled around with by the devs enough I think it would be a fitting server choice. Even if you had to do what the TG server did and make different mumble channels for each team (So as to avoid the distance letting enemies hear you)
Anyone else think it would work? Knowing of course it would have to be heavily admin'ed to keep the trash out, both server and mumble side. (people that don't know how to shut up on mumble and/or do not have it)
Edit: Maybe an Admin can add a poll for this? Yes/No would be enough

I've tried it, it was awesome. But it was hard to keep the squad together

With everything new the changes can be tough at first, I think it would greatly increase the amount a squad has to stay together. Maybe lower the local hearing distance?Dr2B Rudd wrote:I've tried it, it was awesome. But it was hard to keep the squad together
Or mumble can be changed to allow up to nine squads, have a local talk, a squad talk, and a SL talk
Edit: I think another advantage would be it would really create a community only server, a server where you know you'll find a lot more people from the forums playing. I've ran into a lot of people lately that don't know what mumble is... and then I ask if they ever come to the forums and their answer is no.

Look further down the section a bit and you can see that one is being set up
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr-general-discussion/59770-pr-server-idea-12.html
The website is here:
Reality Teamwork Forum
and the server will be running later this week, and will be called :
Reality Teamwork Mumble Server
This is a community server, and isn't connected to any clans. The rules and maps of the server are decided by members of the community on the RT forum, which is free to join.
Sign up on the forum!
PS - Initially there wont be a compulsory mumble rule, but it will have an in game message, telling players that it will soon be a Mumble only server.

It was all fine, but you know when your leading a pubby squad and one of them decides to go on a secret mission? on vbf2 voip I jsut go "noob X, turn 180 degrees, and move forward until you are back with the squad" but they were too far away.has to stay together.
I'd like a squad channel thing like you say, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to have SL coms as well as squad coms. But I guess it would still be better than vbf2 voip since we can always get a commander to coord coms if necessary.

That's just awesome, I'm there for sure. Though I think it would be cool if the devs allowed your project to remain on these forums in their own subsection for the fact it promotes community, something this game needs to preserve.'[R-CON wrote:space;1033290']Look further down the section a bit and you can see that one is being set up

There are benefits of it being "independent" from PR. It means its totally community controlled, so it gives more freedom for map rotations etc.Bainwalker wrote:That's just awesome, I'm there for sure. If it was official, then its possible the DEVs would expect all the PR maps to be played, which imo would mean the server was unpopular at times. I also suspect that it would be heavily admined and have many rules, where as the plan for RT at the moment, is to just have one all encompassing rule - Teamwork!

Re: We need a Mumble only server (when it's out of PR beta)
During stress testing we had an issue with our test server voip and had to play a few rounds with only Mumble. To me it was great. We had the SLs in the SL channel (even the commander) and we got the game going just fine with much more immersion.
We know iGi had a succesful Mumble night this weekend and Click21 guys are trying to get something like that as well.

Mumble only will ruin chopper/tank and apc squads teamwork and ability to work together over a greated distance than close by.
Mumble is great! But not as a VOIP replacement IMO.

I agree - BF2 VOIP should stay, and be used along side Mumble.[R-COM]cyberzomby wrote:Mumble only will ruin chopper/tank and apc squads teamwork and ability to work together over a greated distance than close by.

Btw db - Once the Reality Teamwork server is established, the plan is to make the server white listed so only registered members can join. Ive noticed that Click21 have a permanently passworded server, and yet its full every night. How did they achieve this, and how long did it take them to get there?

Yep, also a very strong community with good leaders/promoters of the mod.

it would probably go a long way towards getting more people on mumble.

Its best not to enforce mumble all the time until mumble is in the state we want it. i.e. automute out of game people.Threedroogs wrote:i wish every server would put a message like this in

What do you mean automate, like switching people to their correct channels?
Or like having "organicly organized gameplay" all the time? is that even possible?

What it means that you can't speak or be heard whilst out of game if other people are in game, or at leasts, thats how I understand it.

Re: We need a Mumble only server (when it's out of PR beta)
Yeah, the only REAL annoyance I have with mumble is...
"hey guys, what server you playing on"
"hey guys, whats the server password"
"hey guys, what map you playing?"
"hey guys, is there space on the server?"
"blaaaaaaaaaah"
"Gaarry! hey garry mate, can ya 'ear me???!"
"mic check"
"can you hear me?"
etc
automuting people not spawned in the game world would finally fix this.
