Crash to desktop when I double click a server to join it. There is no system lag after the crash, and in my experience there's usually some; odd?
Steps to Reproduce:
Every time I double click to join a server I CTD. This is almost definately a problem at my end. It worked fine last night, this morning I gave the computer a spring clean, just deleting/uninstalling old programs, ran CC cleaner...I've done the above before with no problems. I also tried to defragment my hard drive, I'm not sure if it worked as it couldn't have taken very long the first time (usually takes an age), and I ran it a second time and it lasted seconds.
Are there any known problems with disk defragmentor?
Also, I read the FAQ and have applied the edited BF2.exe patch for increasing memory use. Has had no affect.

Please post your system specs this sounds like a hardware issue.BurkeSooty wrote:Crash to desktop when I double click a server to join it. There is no system lag after the crash, and in my experience there's usually some; odd?

Re: CTD when clicking to join server
It does seem that your 'spring clean' may have caused the problem.
This is not a bug though, can a MOD help BurkeSooty by moving this thread to 'PR Tech Support'?
Try a reinstall dude, you may have accidentally removed something you shouldn't have.

Re: CTD when clicking to join server
Cheers for the replies fella's,
I'll try a reinstall of PR, but, if I have to reinstall BF2 I might be in trouble as I can't find my cdkey, is it possible to find out what it is using some technical wizadry?
Thanks again

Re: CTD when clicking to join server
hey,
I have reinstalled the core Pr files (levels too) but to no avail, I tried joining a standard BF2 game but the same problem exists there too. So, I attempted to retrieve my Cd key using the most popular method from the google search results in order to reinstall BF2:
1. Click Start.
2. Go to Run.
3. Type regedit and hit OK button.
4. Click on plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
5. Click on plus sign next to SOFTWARE.
6. Double click on Electronic Arts folder.
7. Double click on EA Games folder.
8. Double click on Battlefield 2 folder.
9. Double click on ergc folder.
10. Data displayed will probably have x9392 only.
11. Right click on it and select Modify.
12. Type in x9392 and then your CD key.
note: don’t include hyphens.
I hit upon a problem at step 9, when I double click the BF2 folder in regedit there is no ergc file, the attached picture details what I can see.
I'm stuck now, completely. Does this conundrum signal the end of my PR playing days?
Cheers

Re: CTD when clicking to join server
Are you back to the same problem seen in your original post?
If so, it might be an idea to run in windowed mode so that you can see any error code that may appear.
Change the properties of your PR shortcut as following:
( I can't remember the exact path but should look something like this...
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 .....blah....."
Put simply, change the part that says fullscreen 1 to fullscreen 0
Then, when you CTD, you should get an error code.
