5. INstalled levels .86
6. Restart
Everytime I click on the short cut I get the vista error blurb that says "pr.exe stopped working" and the details are:

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
the only difference i can think of between my install and yours(also vista 64) is where I have installed the game, try a reinstall fresh, IE delete the folder after you do an uninstall then install BF2+PR to folder off of your C: drive(or whatever your drive you play games off is0.
I have mind setup like this C:\games\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2
also Is your UAC(user account control) disabled?

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
Well my Project reality folder is C:\Program files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr
So are you saying that I should move my pr folder into battlefield 2 directly as I would rather not reinstall as I have already fixed multiple other problems

OK nobody go crazy and start reinstalling stuff yet (I just want to save people going through needless hoops).nd23rin wrote: Everytime I click on the short cut I get the vista error blurb that says "pr.exe stopped working" and the details are:

This problem that you are reporting nd23rin is because your profile directory is not in the place it is expected to be, can you tell me where it is located ? (and if you do uninstall BF2 to try and install it again, then make sure you delete your profiles and all the details in your profiles directory).
If you are trying to recover your profiles, it might help if you actually recover them through BF2 vanilla first and then run PR. So try these things.
This is because it cannot find your BF2.exe, have a look at this thread here ... https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... blems.htmlpaulthenoob wrote:Problem signature:

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
I've got more or less the exact same problem as nd23rin.
It's a new OS Vista 64 setup and after the first installation of BF2 and PR .086 I was able to access the game and join a server - got stuck at 16% on the map-loading screen and since then I cant load the game any further than the spash screen. Same problem signature as nd23rin. I've updated the OS completly - netframework 3.5 sp1 is installed such as the newest directX9 and drivers. I tried installing the whole thing bf2 and pr in several different ways mentioned in the forums, tried starting in admin mode with and without XP SP 2 compatibility; all with the same result:
bf2.exe *32 stops loading any further than 43.xxx kb into the RAM and the cpu usage is stable at 50-60% no matter how long I glare at the taskmanager.
bf2 nor pr or any other mod load further than the spash screen, which is really odd.
Everything else seems to work fine.
My system specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ @ 2.42GHz
4 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9800GT 512MB
Creative X-Fi Fatality chamions series

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
OK a couple of things might be your problem. First and foremost, the crash while loading might have buggered your profile directories, so it might be an idea to delete them all , then use BF2 vanilla to recover them. Then try PR again.
IF you are consistently getting this problem where you cant load the maps, then it might be a memory issue. You could try patching your BF2.exe so that it can support more than 2GB (there is an official BF2 patch available, and Travis has a thread in a sticky in this forum section that explains how you can do it yourself.)
Failing that try, if you cant even get BF2 vanilla working properly, then you should probably try an erase , clean your registry of battlefield2 entries, and then reinstall.

Yeah its probably a good idea to keep a safety of your profiles somewhere. Basically if the game crashes or something while active, its possible for them to get corrupted. If that happens, then just restore your safety versions and away you go.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with being addicted to PR. In fact we positively endorse that attitude

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
I figured that the profiles get "corrupted" if trying to set my audiosettings to "Creative X-Fi".
Whenever I do that - the bleeping sound of the menus changes into some distorted noise and after that bf2 will not start again.
I've tried it with the newest creative x-fi drivers and with some experimental drivers called "XFI Support Pack 2.0" but both with the same result - I'll try gaming with the "Hardware" settings later this evening...

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
Ok... Well I have been having the same problem for a few days now. I too am running Vista 64bit...
Whenever I click to launch the game whether it be from the shortcut or directly from the exe itself, I get the message that the program has stopped working. I have tried numerous different things that Twist has suggested to others. Things like deleting My Docs, running bf2 and then trying to open PR; checking the target of my shortcut and even putting in the WRONG target info to point to BF2.exe actually lets pr open but then I get the message to change the target; I have also done the "regedit" thing and checked the location of BF2 and found that it was in the wrong local so I pointed it to the correct location, however it did not make any difference to BF2 or PR...
Also, I do not want to uninstall BF2 and do a new install bc everytime I do it NEVER works and I just have to copy and paste from a backup copy of bf2 to get it to work again.
I first tried to do the simple patch to .086 and it kept saying that PR was not installed. I then uninstalled PR and did the FULL install of .086 with the core and levels.
I have attached a screen shot to try and show ALL of this at one time...
Specs:
-Intel(R) i7 920 @ 2.80 GHz
-6GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz OCZ
-Intel(R) DX58SO LGA 1366 Intel X58 Motherboard
-OS and BF2 installed on a Velociraptor HDD
-Visiontek HD Radeon 4870X2 2GB GDDR5
-Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, Service pk 1
If need be, I would be willing to let someone remote connect to my computer so long as we were both on TS. We could use Moongamers TS, as I am an Admin there...
TWIST, PLEASE HELP

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
This kinda means that somehow you installed BF2 to somewhere else other than where the registry thinks it is. No idea how folks are doing this though ...Invincible wrote:I have also done the "regedit" thing and checked the location of BF2 and found that it was in the wrong local so I pointed it to the correct location, however it did not make any difference to BF2 or PR...
Is your version installed from a CD ?
The only foolproof solution I am afraid is for you to reinstall BF2 , uninstall and clean your registry, profiles and programfiles folder of any reference to Battlefield2 and reinstall ... and try to install to default places if you can.

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
Well the way it is being done is by taking an ENTIRE BF2 file, and pasting to the place you want to run it from... If I uninstall then reinstall BF2 (from my CD) I will NOT be able to even get BF2 to work properly... Then at that point I would have to copy and paste a back up of the BF2 file I have and paste it back to the location I would like it in... I even recently tried to unistall and reinstall bf2 bc I could not get the AIX2.0 mod to work right, then when I reinstalled bf2 i couldnt even get that to work right, I would just CTD over and over over again... hmm, idk, there MUST be a different way to do this, if there isnt then I will just have to live with PR for now until someone can come up with another game plan... Thank you for your response though

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
Also... Being that BF2 works perfectly fine as well as the AIX mod, I further support my feeling of not wanting to uninstall and reinstall... plus PR worked perfectly fine before this update...

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
Well that is entirely up to you, but if your registry entries for your programs do not refer to the programs, then they are called 'ghost' or 'orphaned' entries. Any program that tries to read from your registry to get information about your software (which is a VERY common process for programs to do), will get erroneous information.
Its like swapping your door number with a neighbour and wondering why you don't get any mail.
This ...
Honestly ... with a corrupted registry you are going to find that your software does weird and inexplicable tihngs. Its all the advice I can give you I am afraid, its entirely up to you what you do with that advice.

This ...
... is a surefire way to bugger your PC.Well the way it is being done is by taking an ENTIRE BF2 file, and pasting to the place you want to run it from...
This is because your registry is buggered, and is full of orphaned entries. Uninstall and clean it like I said.If I uninstall then reinstall BF2 (from my CD) I will NOT be able to even get BF2 to work properly...

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
...ok ok, I will go for it and try to do this. Question though, what should I use to clean my registry? I cant say that I have done this before... Also, should unstall and clean out EVERYTHING BF2 related? (ie. AIX2.0) I am going to try and figure this out on my own and start to do it now but, I will check back to this thread periodically... Thanks Again...

Re: Vista 64 - "pr.exe stopped working" message
I explain how to clean your registry of entries by hand here --> https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... blems.html
(but remember to uninstall FIRST !!)
If you feel nervous about doing it by hand then you should perhaps use a tool like one of the ones found here.
http://majorgeeks.com/downloads15.html
However do be careful please when mucking about in the registry, you can do a lot of damage. Don't erase anything but the Battlefield 2 references, no matter what the tool reports to you.
(if you read up on the tool and how it works and you fancy a go at tidying your machine up, you want to remove orphaned entries, nothing else)
And yes its probably a good idea to remove everything BF2 related, clean all your directories , registry and start from a clean slate.
