Questions about the Su-30 on Qinling

Post by XennoX »

Hi all,

So I've been practicing landing aircraft on both traning maps, and I have got landing on Kashan down to a fine art now. My biggest problem at the moment is landing the Su-30 on Qinling, I come in from 2km away and keep the throttle between 40-45%, and keep the stick back to prevent me from dropping below 65, as at 62 you hit the tallest tree on approach. Once I pass the treeline, I kill the throttle and put it into full reverse, touchdown 9 times out of 10, 10m from the edge of the runway, and let the jet coast until it hits 500 km/h. I then proceed to pull back on the stick to engage the reverse taxi engine, but I always seem to plough into the fence at the far side of the runway with a speed variation between 220-350 km/h.

I've attempted this several times [Probably 8 by now], and I always end up with the same result.

Any guidance or tips on how to overcome this obstacle?

Now, for the co-pilot seat. The Su-30 has 5 different "load outs", namely:

1. Free look
2. KH-29T Air-to-Ground Missile
3. AGM-114K Air-to-Ground Missile
4. MK-81 General Purpose Bomb
5. AGM-114K Air-to-Ground Missile

The question I pose here is, how do I as the co-pilot/bombardier, use the KH-29T? Everytime I fire it, the missile just launches and flys off into the abyss, no matter where I am looking with the sights.

Is it a laser guided weapon? Because if it is, its designation should be KH-29L.

Is there a difference between the two AGM-114K's? I know the 1st of the two AGM's are TV guided, hence I would presume that the 2nd of the two is a laser guided AGM, similar to those found on the AH-64 Apache.

For the MK-81 GP Bomb, whats the optimal height at which one should release the bomb, as it doesn't seem to have an arming height, you release it and its armed. I found this out the hard way, by mistakingly pushing 4 instead of 3 and left clicking only to hear the sound of a bomb being let go, at 40 feet above the ground I believe, needless to say the results were not good.

Any help will be appreciated. :)

For the Su-30 the LG/LT selections for the AGM and the Bombs are reversed from that of the Tornado.

1. Free look
2. Laser Targeted AGM
3. Laser Guided AGM
4. Laser Targeted Bomb
5. Laser Guided Bomb

The tornado has the LG selection first, followed by LT of each kind. The bomb works the same as all other bombs in PR (if you've selected Laser Targeted). It can be dropped at any altitude but too high and it will time out and blow mid-air. As opposed to the AGMs, the bomb will guide itself onto lases it finds during flight.

About landing the SU-30, it's silly really. Even if your approach is perfect you'll be damn close to hitting the fence at the end of runway, just make sure your landing is flawless and if you are that little bit too fast jump out just at the end. If you're lucky it should only wound you or not hurt you at all.

To land it try to maintain a speed of 900-1100 until you are in visual of the runway.
To do this, you must throttle down (S key) and use or hold down afterburner only when your going under 900 or the plane is beginning to pitch down a lot.
Once you see the runway, line up and try to keep your fingers away from the the throttle key unless it is mandatory for you pull up.
Keep your altitude higher than 2 trees on top of each other (you get the picture) At around 300 km away from the runway (put a marker on the runway before you land, HOLD the S button while losing altitude to about tree level..
Once the above is done, pitch up 5-15 degrees (flaring on landing) while holding the S key down. This ensures your landing gear has dropped you wont dive into the runway nose first. Only use afterburner/throttle when your not going to make it to the end of the runway or slight adjustments to speed. (the speed should be around 900-700)
You should be able to touch down at the runway around 750-600 while holding down the S key. When your speed reaches 400 or less start using the reverse button on your taxi (arrows) they help alot at speeds under 400.
If your 3/4 through the runway and your speed is above 400, throttle up and retry.
If you cannot stop the jet, hop out instead of wasting an asset and tickets.
