graphics problems

Hi
just recently i bought a nvidia 275 gtx, upgrading from a 7600gt. With my new card i was expecting to be able to run bf2 and pr on all settings high. For some reason im getting low fps in certain areas on some maps with such a good card.

Ive got a pentium d dual core 3.2 GHz with 2gb of ram.

when i was running my old 7600gt the game ran fine on all low settings in pr but with this new card ive been only able to move the settings to medium and still get smooth game play.

Also at the start of each game im getting badly stuttering gameplay for about a minute, where my fps will drop about 10-20 frames then go back up, then drop again. This will go on for about a minute then will stop :S.

This is going to be down to your CPU to be honest mate. A single core processor is going to bottle neck your machine a lot, especially now games are advancing to quad cores.

Id seriously look to getting a new Chip soon buddy.

what i dnt understand is that my old 7600gt was able to run pr all low nd that was fine no lagging smooth play cept on falujah but rest was good, even in all the wooded chinese/russian maps. With this new graphics card shouldnt i be able to crank the graphics up?? Do i need more ram or yeah as u said a new chip, and if so how much or what chip?

well the chip you have is a single core Pentium with Hyperthreading, its technically not a dual core.

Id say the Chip is always going to be the bottle neck here.

With regards to what to get, that all depends on what sort of money you have to play with, and what other hardware you have now, eg motherboard and RAM...

oh and mr hyde i havent tested bf2 on single player but i was playin bf2142 on single player b4 and i could run that on high and was smooth but when i joined multiplayer my gameplay my fps dropped

Id say the Chip is always going to be the bottle neck here.

With regards to what to get, that all depends on what sort of money you have to play with, and what other hardware you have now, eg motherboard and RAM...

Not sure if you have different info than I do but in the orginal post he said he has a Pentium D, which is a dual core.

I personally don't think your CPU is a bottleneck. If you can play SP on high settings without a problem, I would have to say its something to do with your network.

Ah, Conceded, I didnt notice the D in the OP

Seems strange though that network lag would only show up since he has heightened his textures etc....

this may still be a CPU issue, as it may be now getting a little hot, but it also may be a PSU issue if your Power Supply is struggling to power your GPU fully.

in regards to power supply no it is not under powered when i got the card put in i had to get a new power supply installed to i got a seasonic psr650+ put in so i got a 100 extra watts than what is required

i dnt believe it is network connection, i was playing with my computer plugged straight into the modem. my internet connection is with bigpond, im on some plan called BigPond Cable Standard Liberty, which we get in conjunction with our foxtel somehow :S

yeah in the first few mins of the game just recently ive been gettin fps drops like itll be at 90 fps then drop to bout 70-80 fps for no reason , just when standing at main base, then it will go back to 90 then drop again. This gives a real stutter like movement like it will just freeze for a second and then move again.

Ok, try turning on vsync as your monitor will only be able to show 60 fps anyway really.

Use Nvidia's control panel for this.

but to be honest, 10 fps drop isn't exactly bad bud, it may be noticeable, but vsync should cure that.
