[Help] Surrounding Terrain Heightmaps

Post by chuckduck »

This morning I began work on converting my map from a 4km training map into a new map based in South East Asia, Cambodia to be precise.

I have been working on the elevation and where the land meets the sea. I am now pleased with the result and have decided to move on to creating the surrounding terrain.
Yes i realise the textures are all green and checkered, thats because i have not selected the textures yet. The textures are not the problem, im trying to get the ocean and beach to continue in the surrounding terrain like on the Gulf of Oman. See the 3rd picture.

Promblems...

I cant edit the elevation of the surrounding terrain via the Terrain Editor "modify" tool.
Ive attached some images of what it looks like after I activated the surrounding terrain and it generated these automatically.

Picture 1) As you can see the surroundingterrain has formed a slope which goes below the water line. But there is also the large green area that is above the water line, which i dont want.

Picture 2) Heres one corner of the map, there is a slope just as the previous picture but that slope soon ends, making a square lake for the water.

Picture 3) This is what im trying to achieve, i need there to be a continuing sea in the surrounding terrain but with a shoreline seperating the flat ground (green) from the areas below sea level (Black)

How can a edit the surrounding terrain?
And is there anyway to use the BF2 Secondary heightmap generator on my 4km map?

Thanks in advance, if you dont really know what im talking about, just ask and ill try to explain.

could be wrong on this, but thought the green was the automatic texture colour. Don't you have to give it a texture/colour

Oops i forgot to mention tat i havent textured my map yet. And i realise the green is just the placeholder color of the terrain until i apply a texture. (which i will be doing after i elevate the terrain)

The problem i am facng is that im trying to get the surrounding terrain to connect with the ocean and the beaches. Just like the surrounding terrain in Gulf of Oman.

You could try to edit the heightmaps with Photoshop. The secondary hightmaps should be 8-bit RAW intel.

I tried this, but since i dont have Photoshop i couldnt open and edit the files.

I could view them with infran view, but could not open them with Paint.net... :|

Do you know if i can use the BF2 secondary heightmap generator succesfully on my 4km map?
Or is there some other way to edit the surrounding terrain?

I think i have solved this problem now, but editing the surrounding terrain is very laggy, i think its because its a 4km map.
