Ok, ive moved on to the overgrowth and undegrowth stage of my map, but was wondering...how do i edit the surrounding terrain, eg.Textures and vegtation.

I cant seem to paint the surrounding terrain with textures or vegetation...am i doing something wrong or is it just not possible to make the surrounding terrain less barren.

I think its posible to place statics on the surrounding terrain though, but cant i paint vegetation?

Thanks

You have to hand place lods of any bit of vegetation you want in the surrounding terrain. If you drag a full version of a tree or w/e into the surrounding terrain it will cause the map to crash. Find the tree you want in the vegetation folder i.e. objects\vegetation etc and drag in the version with _lod at the end i.e. stump_lod

Thanks,
the reason i wasnt seeing any results when texturig is because, if you edit surrounding terrain on a 4km map there is a considerable delay. Well at least on my PC.

GIMP + DDS plugin is also a good plan. Save the DDS as DXT3 with mipmaps enabled IIRC.
This is for the colormaps and textures right?
So is it possible to use this same technique to duplicate the secondary heightmaps/surrounding terrain heightmaps by making one secondary terrain tile and copying and renaming to replace the the other tiles?

Also is there anyway to open up the heightmaps for edititng without the use of Photoshop, like free image editing software with RAW plugins?

Anyways thanks for awnsering all my questions. :D
