now before i start this, let me say that i agree that a useful sniper can be a bonus to the team and his intel can make the commanders job much easier. i am not denying that. I simply want people to use the sniper kit less if they are no good at it. this is because I am sick of insurgents picking me off with a blufor sniper kit.
here are some things i want you to think about before you take that sniper kit
beware: long read.
do we really need a sniper?
what kind of map are you on, is it a wide open map like kashan? then yes, a sniper kit is useful, it lets you spot and lazer enemy armor and positions as you have a huge field of view, and you can easily hide in the huge area.
are you on korengal valley? have you noticed all the bloody trees that the enemy is hiding behind? how many enemies are you actually going to see? are you actually going to be useful to the rest of the team?
also important, do we maybe need a sniper later? is some squad going to need that long range fire power to take out an enemy position but is going to find all sniper and marksmen kits gone?
would an enemy having a sniper on this map cripple our troops?
i like playing insurgent on korengal. i have played alot of rounds there, and the amount of sniper rifles I or anyone else in the team capture is ridiculous. now one of us goes up on a mountain, and picks off blufor coming out of the enemy base. we can see red lmg tracers across half the map. we can pick off people inside the outpost.
i also like playing basrah. in one round, i managed to capture a sniper kit 3 times. that is three times, that a sniper lost their kit, i grabbed it, and started picking off brits from a few hundred meters distance. I had a 32 to 3 k/d ratio, as an insurgent, doing almost nothing but sniping. think about this next time you want to grab a sniper kit
how long will i hold on to this sniper kit?
am i going to grab this kit, run off into the field and keep running around? am I going to lie on top of a mountain where i can be seen from anywhere on the map? am I aware that in insurgency, the enemy can spawn just about anywhere? am I aware that the caches spawn and create spawn points? am I nowhere near any troops that could give me any bit of help? am I in a position where the enemy can come up behind me without me picking them off? basically, what are the odds that the enemy is going to get this kit?
am i a good sniper?
this does not mean, can you shoot a guy in the head while he is sprinting and jumping 600 meters away. this means, can you spot the enemy at a distance, fire at them without being spotted, and make that shot count? can you pick out the enemy medic so he gets hit while in the open? can you bait the enemy to try and recover the medic kit? do you know when to just let an enemy pass and give the intel to the commander? do you know when not to shoot and trace an enemy to find an enemy firebase?
can you move about the map without being spotted? are you patient enough to spend 6 minutes crawling through a field at a snails pace to get to a good position? are you smart enough not to lie on the very edge of a building where you can be seen and shot from straight below like 75% of the other snipers? are you smart enough not be sit on the very top of a mountain, showing you off against the skyline?
I know there are good snipers out there, but unfortunately most snipers die within 10 minutes and leave their kit to the enemy.
do I snipe because i watched enemy at the gates?
if you are quoting ANYTHING while sniping (i am not kidding, i've seen this happen), you immediately disqualify. the only thing you are doing is hurting the rest of the team.
finally, the president has been kidnapped by ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?
being a good sniper is hard, you need to be a good player and play smart.
you now have a choice, be a useful sniper, or grab an assault rifle join a squad and go to the frontline.
because if i see another guy grab a sniper kit, die and loose it, then respawn and grab another one, im tking him
drop that sniper kit or how to be a useful member of the team
