Is the Strkyer less well armoured than other vehicles ingame?
I was playing on Karbala earlier, failed a bit since I was playing so late.
BUt anyway, whenever we were hit by an RPG we'd get tracked immediately.
Where we unlucky or are Strkyers coded so that they are more likely to get tracked etc? I would have through wheels would make being tracked less likely since if you lose a wheel you should be ok?

It is the weakest APC in terms of armor, I believe. Usually one car bomb will take it out, even at a distance.

I've read that IRL it's also less armoured and it's armour is less reliable than say the Lav-25, but I dunno how good my source is.

yeah 2 bomb cars managed to explode within 25m and both tracked usJazz wrote:It is the weakest APC in terms of armor, I believe. Usually one car bomb will take it out, even at a distance.
the first one we survived, but the second one we didn't, though we got a repair crate, the APC stopped flaming, then suddenly it exploded and we don't actually know why that happened
crew survived and became a humvee squad until I left form fatigue

Hm, on Karbala before, my Stryker survived a RPG and then a failed bombcar..
Although, I'd like to see some more Stryker variants in PR
The .50 can do some damage when you have good coordination between gunner/driver, But honestly, Stryker can't take a head on hit by a bombcar.. Nor IED in that matter..

I usually dont use the stryker by default, since it lacks firepower. And is such a large target, it goes for me unwanting to have such a "menace" on the field.
I would enjoy a far more lighter veichle, like a hummwee, with a very powerful gun and a high rate of fire. But thats just to get the assymetrical thingy working, i dont know if its realistic.

The Stryker is a fair support weapon. You have to use them well, and to their advantage. They have extreme range. Which makes them extremely effective for covering squads. Spare they do not have very sharp teeth. The skill of the gunner plays a massive role with Strykers. You cannot just pump HE into the area until things dies. You have to hit you targets.
I've had some extremely good runs with the Stryker.
Again...we kept our distance...and had gun trucks covering us as well. From bomb cars etc.

Im more of a "put as much fire on that place as possible" rather than "hit that one tiny part of the soldier sticking out" kinda guy. And i like to be safe...
You know, americans say bigger is better, the stryker doesnt tell this message to the rest of the world.
I mean, imagine a motorised/mechanized battalion of US army moving into some city in the future with stryker, the talibans/insurgenst would go, "What is the bloddy british doing here?"
But, then again maybe their gonna use that weird side armor on the stryker.

I am not entirely sure how effective the Stryker is IRL. I talked to a few Cav Scouts, they say they really like the Stryker. The ride is a lot smoother. It's faster, quieter, and more reliable in the field than tracked IFVs.
In PR...they are glorified guntrucks. If you had a HMMV with crows that could fit six soldiers, you'd have a Stryker minus the big profile.

One time I was the gunner of a Stryker, and we were exiting the base on EJOD in a hurry. A friendly truck was coming to rearm itself, and was going to fast to stop. The truck rammed our Stryker, because we were both going fast in either direction. We blew up, but the truck didn't even get a scratch. What the hell went wrong here?

It's an APC, not an IFV. It's supposed to move people from A to B more quickly than walking and more safely than going in hummers. Armour is 14.5mm resistant - it's supposed to take small-arms fire but not go head-to-head against Anti-Tank weapons or heavy autocannon fire.

Re: Is the Strkyer less well armoured than other vehicles ingame?
Sounds like the Stryker hit something more stubborn than it....I'll give the supply trucks credit. At full speed, they might as well be a dreadnought. I remember playing a round of Basra, and having a "run in" with a techy....and what I mean by that....I felt a bumb and heard an explosion. Leaving the techy as road kill. The truck wasn't even smoking after the collision.
The a Stryker armed with a Mk.19 would be great...as a matter of fact...where are the Mk 19s?? Sounds like a search is in order. I completely forgot that the US military even used them!

The gun is there to keep the heads of your enemies down in the off chance they try something, not to root them out and destroy them. It is a box with a gun, not a gun on a box.

Vehicular support seems to be a very important thing for INS maps. Especially Karbala and Ramiel. More so on Karbala....I cannot recall a single round going well for blufor unless the Strykers are viable support. When the Strykers fail the inf...the rounds tend to get very bad for Blufor.

Re: Is the Strkyer less well armoured than other vehicles ingame?
Every IFV or APC (AFAIK) will get a "flat tire" after one LAT hit on the tires.
OP are you sure it was an RPG and not a stolen LAT kit?
With that sniper zoom Stryker can moan down pretty much anything in maps like Karbala where no IFV is present or where MEC has those buggy APC:s where every other spot is a hole.
If stryker would be intended as troop transport, it would need a heavy nerf.
Imho its overpowered when used as assault weapon.

Re: Is the Strkyer less well armoured than other vehicles ingame?
i think the strkyer is the most pure APC in game atm it has just enough armor to get sqauds to position and a little fire power for support.i mean the bradly might as well be a light tank.
bit off topic but i think the stryker should have more seats than the bradly as i think there is more space for troops inside as it dont have to carry a ton of shells or has thick armor like its heavy cuisen.Seems logical to me dont know about IRL mind.

Re: Is the Strkyer less well armoured than other vehicles ingame?
the stryker is like one of the least armored apc's possible its light fast and the crows makes it very usefull against infantry and supporting infantry.. the only thing is its very weak.
