Laser pointer in Night maps

Post by bigbossmatt »

How about spec ops and snipers get a little red dot that actually appears on their target? This would probably only work on night maps.

Perhaps have it as an extra button, so that it could be turned off and on, perhaps even having its own positive side effects too.

Lets say, if you turn it on, people all know that there is a sniper looking at you, and they get a bit of a warning, but then what if when you turn it on, it decreases the amount of time it takes for a sniper to steady the shot (ie they can almost point and shoot).

The intricasies of this idea would come down to the modding and implementing of it. Like, if done badly, then the snipers would have an advantage, and if down well it could be a great feature making BF Reality more complicated.

Thoughts?

I don't see the point of a laser sight on rifles. Your scope is good for the job.

Isn't the point of using laser sight so you are not dependent on your other glow sights anyway? It's for quick response action. Snipers don't fall into that category.

I'd rather have a thermal sight on the spec. ops and a night vision scope for the sniper rifle (extra; so they get double the nv battery)

Just make it a sprite of a little red dot that appears on the target location. The engine is capable of knowing where a weapon is pointed because the rangefinder does that. I'm sure it's quite possible.

Either way, this shouldn't be implemented. Yes, projected red dot sights do indeed look cool in movies, but they're inpractical in reality and most weapons that use them project an infra red beam instead that can only be seen through infra red goggles.

be good if you were to replace the flashlight on the sig of the spec ops to a laser pointer (if you know what i meen) so it would be a lot quicker to aim and more accurate (or give you the feeling of greater accuracy)

Visible laser aiming modules are not favored in the military because they tend to become a substitute for proper marksmanship fundamentals, and those skills start to perish. When small arms aiming devices are used, they are normally used to point out/illuminate targets with infrared light which can be seen through NODs, ike the AN/PEQ-2 and AN/PAQ-4. The disadvantage of these is that the beams give away your position to enemies with NODs.

I like this idea. Maybe for the Spec Ops M4 too, since Special Forces use AN/PEQ-2s on their M4s.
