Whats that I can't hear you?!?

Post by verman84 »

I am not sure if it is just me (believe me I have tried to find out but cannotn communicate with anyone effectively) but I have noticed that since the last patch or two, the game in general is significantly louder than before in such a horrible way.

I have noticed that I hear things as if they are closer to me than they actually are...ambiance, gunfire, tanks, jets, wind, running, you name it.

Everything is so loud that I am never able to hear anyone over VOIP which really kills the teamwork aspect of the quest for reality.

I have tried to turn down the sound effects in the options (effects 50% and voip 100%) but the only thing that does quiet down is my players effects (gunfire, walking, etc) which is annoying because I can still hear everythign else at regular volume except for when I am firing.

I am not sure if this increased sound is meant to be more realistic as "war is noisy" but I feel it instead takes A LOT away from the game because on most occasions I cannot speak with any of my team mates and after about an hour of play, want to throw my speakers out of the freaking window. If I am alone on the opposite side of the map behind a building, I should not hear the tank accross the map as if it were right next to me. This is extremely disorienting (even TOO much for realism) and pisses em off more than anything. I feel that the ambiance is like a 10 year old blowing in the mic for the entirety of the game.

If this sounds like something that only I am noticing then I assume it may just be a bug with my stuff and I should uninstall and reinstall PRMM (which I already did before the last update)

Please someone tell me if I am crazy to think this increased sound is hindering the realism.

what are you talking about? WHen you press the voip button, all other sounds lower so your voip is louder. It's like part of a mathematical function. So it must be your ear or your sound or something.

And I believe the war noises should be LOUDER and more gritty! Hopefully by means of the EFX sound pack :)

well I think he is annoyed by the fact that when a Sniper fires, it sound like he is right on top of you. This is soooo annoying and I have no idea why it happens.

Try your sound settings on SOFTWARE/HIGH.

If it aint that, then it's those voices in your head, and we certainly aren't qualified to help with that :D

I had this problem. Take the X out of the box for EXA or AEX I cant remember what it is called but it is the only box that you can untick in the audio section. Its located directly under the sound quality drop down menu.

This would definitely be a factor, if it's enabled, disable it. EAX tries to emulate 3-dimensional sound.

Yeah I figured it out in sort of a round about way, I decided to create a new profile for BF2 because I wanted to start over on the unlocks and when I did I could hear people on VoIP. THe sound quality was **** though so I had to modify my settings from software audio to Hardware and at the same time I enabled EAX I couldnt hear VoIP after that. After a bit of fiddling I figured out what was going on : )

For me its only PR that has the weird doppler sound. I can judge quite well on vBF2 how far away a rifle report is, but on PR the weapons sound stays at around max volume out to nearly 50 meters!

Its really annoying on the city maps trying to find that sniper, or that 50 cal gunner and then to find out that hes all the way down the street nearly beyond the fog range when it sounds like hes standing on top of me.

if i disable it i wont hear nearby teammates talking no more? i find this pretty awsome!

the shots 1km away sounding as 1m away is annoying! on bf2 it doesnt happen!

and for TS, yes, it is horrible to use, cant hear
but voip works nice

verman, now that you deselected it, can you hear the 3d sound of nearby soldiers talking "enemy spotted/first aid here/etc" still?
this is important to listen to nearby enemies also! i guess EAX that provides the 3d sound, doesnt it?

I only joined an empty server to see if there was the loud ambiance, I shot a few rounds which were normal, got shot by an APC from a several meters away which sounded more like a real hearing distance but nobody was on my team so that I could test the comm or VOIP though the only problem I ever had with the VOIP was that the ambiance was too loud to hear anything else.

I will reply once I get into a real game and test it out.

Glad to hear that it worked but does anyone know if there is a work around to acutally use EAX?
