Why no chutes
I've been playing PR since mid March 2009 and I'm yet to see a deployed parachute; why is that?

The parachute is only available to the pilot kit. You are highly encouraged to read the manual for PR. It will answer many basic questions such as these.

Well only pilots get them as Tirak says
Heli pilots tend to fly too low to use them, and with teh new physics they have a reasonable chance of getting to the ground and surviving
Jet pilots tend to go down with the jet.

The other option to going down is getting run over by the jet you just bailed out ofDr2B Rudd wrote:Jet pilots tend to go down with the jet.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

As you can see, this Reichswehr infantryman needs no parachute, as he does not intend to jump off 50 foot buildings during combat, and we all know how good the Germins are at shooting and that, so you don't need one either.

I’m glad they killed the parachutes for everyone. It makes it more realistic.

Infantry parachutes is one of the worst features in the BF-games imo.

Re: Why no chutes
Or have paradrop specific maps, which I would like to see. Every kit can be given a parachute by simply extending their name IIRC from the mapping section, so it could be done on certain maps. The best part is that they only work from large heights so no base jumping/roof jumping silliness would occur, it would only matter for the insertion mode.Spartan0189 wrote:Unless, we have a "Paratrooper" kit, I don't think it will be for everyone![]()
Barracuda (or another island map) would make a great map to have the option of having paradrops.

i agree with spartan, jus make a paratrooper kit with a carbine and let them be able to jump outa hueys on barracuda, i think would be a lot easier to do

Re: Why no chutes
Parachutes were removed from all kits, excluding the pilot, to remove the non-desirable aspect of unrealistic gameplay.
In the past, it was common place on the virtual battlefield to see soldiers parachuting from buildings or from helicopters directly into the fight, as opposed to designated staging points/LZs as per real life.
It is for the same reason why the Pilot kit does not have a weapon, as it allowed players to attempt suicide-missions into enemy lines; aswell as over-simplifying the methods of locating and the destruction of enemy firebases/bunkers.

Re: Why no chutes
The kits you speak of are already there including the versions with NVGs and versions that include chutes and NVGs, there just aren't any maps to use them on. Also there's no object spawners for chute kits, so any snipzors or grenadiers would go splat.snooggums wrote:Or have paradrop specific maps, which I would like to see. Barracuda doesn't need paradrops - all you need is a low and slow drop in the ocean on the south side of the map by huey, wait for it to clear then swim in nice and quiet.

Re: Why no chutes
I'd be happy with basic kits for jumping and getting those extra kits from crates dropped separately. Like I said, I'm hoping for an appropriate map for implementation. Night drops would be very interesting...'[R-CON wrote:Outlawz;1112354']The kits you speak of are already there including the versions with NVGs and versions that include chutes and NVGs, there just aren't any maps to use them on. OP's question has been answered, and paradrop maps have been suggested and discussed along with the paratrooper kits a fair few times already.
