What type of connection do you have?

What type of network is set up at your house?

Are you using wireless?

Network drivers up to date and windows up to date?

Are you downloading anything (including on a torrent share program)

Is it storming outside?

Does this happen all the time or just once and your posting about it now after one or two times?

What is your network setup? Give specifics like routers, names, how many comps connected...

Check for packet loss using the PING command.

Right now it could be many things that could potentially be the cause. We need to narrow down cause and effect in order to get a proper diagnosis

Its a westell gateway router and im the only 1 connected, it has to be a driver problem because it didn't happen till I re-installed xp.

check your NIC(Network Interface Card) driver, aka Ethernet adapter. I've done lots of Windows installs and most NICs aren't recognized automatically. Just make sure you have the appropriate driver for your motherboard, if it's an on board NIC. Otherwise, go to your NIC manufacturers website.

Have you tried to open the apporpriate ports for BF2? Link

Since reinstalling your OS have you updated PB?

Did you perhaps change any settings on your DSL modem? Perhaps resetting the defaults might help.

VISTA USERS:

→ Simply download a program called VAL (Vista Anti-lag), I would have posted a link but unfortunatley i was not able to find it anywhere if you don't find it, xfire me ill send it to you.

XP USERS:

→ Open run and type in the following "services.msc" without quotes. Then youll see a list of all your services, scroll down to the bottom and look for "Wireless Zero Configuration." Once you locate it right-click and click stop. You will have to do this every time you restart windows unless you want to permanetly stop it then I believe you need to go into properties and select "Disabled."

This drove me nuts in the past but now you should be able to play without any lag spikes good luck.
