A summation of suggestions I can think of...

Post by bigbossmatt »

Hi

I have posted a few times here with a few of my suggestions, but without the need to clutter and make it harder for people to search, I think from now on I'll put forward all my siggestions here, and just edit this post.

By this I don't imply my suggestions are good or expect anything to come by them, but here they are.

Remove hud.
I have turned it off ingame with the line 'rendererdraw.hud 0', but thats not good enough because certain guns have hud components such as the spec ops aim dot. This is where someone liek me would rely on the efforts of modders to edit it for me. Trust me, we are all grateful.

Included in the removing of the hud is:
Score (ticket count)
Timer
Minimap
Ammo count
Health
Vehicle stats, ie health and ammo, or whatever else there is.

Re: timer:
If the map ends by time out, let people know this, ie introduce a sound file or a message after round is over. But remove the timer, and don't have a heart beat. People play differently when they know the game is almost over and certain options of gameplay are therefore futile. Perhaps allow the time to be accessed by some code, ie ~ rendererdraw.time 1, thus limiting the free knowledge of this feature, and perhaps it is necessary information at times.

Re: mini map:
So unrealistic. If you want this to be in the game, then perhaps PRMM is aiming at a different level of realism. I'm cool with whatever happens, I just think minimap is better gone than in game.

Keep these in the hud:
The single shot/burst/a modes icon
Icons showing the change in weapons when in a tank (ie when pressing 1,2 or 3)

Remove commanders ability to zoom into realtime gameplay.
Same as above really.

In game names are never to be seen.
This was one of my earlier posts, make people look at uniforms before they shoot. Remove the unrealistic coloured names that appear over enemy or friendly soldiers, whether you ware looking at them directly, partially, or not at all. I'm not even personally a fan of the idea of having enemy soldiers show up after hovering directly over them for a period of time. As for people needing to know where their squad leader is, perhaps have this as available information, which I'll leave to the developers to implement.

Remove all server messages
Lets give some people credit - they aren't dumb, and people can chat to assertain information as required. Very shortly the whole community will know how to play the modes, and the community is much more mature than vbf2, and from my experience are more than willing to help out in such a way, also if you make the game more realistic according to these changes, that will only increase the even more mature players to play prmm

Remove 3D map
This is completely unrealistic, I can turn it off anyway, but still.

Remove talking within squad while dead
This removes unrealistic information gathering. You can think of examples. "sniper is on the hill next the the tree", when this would normally not be a chance for the sniper to be reveiled.

Remove tab scores except ping, map vote, server details
I have a post about this elswhere. I have heard good (supporting) feedback on this idea, due to the scoreboards' ability to give away information about whether a kill was made.

However, do show the scores for everything as per normal but only at the end of the round.

Remove dead vision of any description
Make your vision either non-existent when dead and waiting to be healed, or at least blacked out -like when you are being shot at in a vehicle.

If possible, introduce randomly "head looking sideways" with reduced vision when shot and waiting for a heal. I read on totalbf2 forums how certain modders were mucking around with a feature of the bf2editor that affected the screen that follows vehicle (for the outside view) by modifying a particular value. Perhaps this camera could be made to look at right angles to both the sky and your feet. I don't know how to do this, or if it's possible, but yeah.

Make it so that in the period of time when you can't be healed (and you are waiting to spawn), you cannot see the action, that is the screen doesn't fall back and give information to that person - who is then able to communicate while dead!

_____________________________________
I think most of these things would be possible, hence i suggest them.

They would make for a completely augmented PRMM experience, taking the realism that this mod already introduced into a new realm of gameplay.

I'd love to hear your ideas on this, and I am happy respond!
BTW, it was never my intention to sound arrogent, or pushy or anything bad. I simply spend some of my free time thinking conceptually about how this mod could blow my world further!

I love this mod, and I've said it before. I only wish I could play it without the Jungle Fever map in rotation. HAHA

I like all of your ideas execpt for the turning of the hud one. We do need to make the gam playable and without any form of map getting from point to point would be very hard. I also like the dead vison/ dead talking idea.

Some of it's too much though. If they had a sound for timer/ticket when it was close to expiring, it would be pretty useful. I'm pretty sure in "real-life" there's a realization of how many people there are left in the reserves. If one side was down to 20 guys, they are less likely to attempt to brute-force a location. Or maybe the reverse. If someone only has X amount of time to accomplish a mission with a large number of reserves, they are more willing to charge through.

Minimap is really arguable. I guess it would be ok but then that totally removes the ability to spot(unless you mean simply the map itself, not the compass or dots that are marked). It is A LOT easier to mark someone than say/type "yo there's kit X distance Y in direction Z." Don't tell me that's what they do in real life. I mean sure they do, but at the same time they can do something we cant ingame. They can point.

I think ingame names should disappear until you mouse over, or squad leaders simply have their number above their head. It would be nice if in addition to mousing over and seeing a name, maybe what squad they are assigned to. Though I think this would be a *****/not possible to apply.

Removing talking while dead ... well there's something called Vent and TS.

I'm kinda confused by what you mean by 3D mapping. I'm assuming it's not the same as the commander's ability to use sat-imaging.

I would kinda be annoyed if I couldn't check my score before the round was over if I had to go, or didn't feel like playing anymore. But hey, what can I say.

The issue that's always raised in these situations is realism Vs. gameplay. Too much either way and no one is happy it's about finding a balance.

3D mapping is the thing turned off by pressing <alt>.

Even though TS and Vent exist, I still support my idea.

Good point regarding the minimap and spotting. That is a point which I have overlooked and a good one to support the minimap sticking around.

Mag count needs to be there because I'd always know how many mags I was carrying.

Friendly tags need to be there at a distance to 50-100metres because if you were in a squad with an individual you would always be able to tell who your mates are just by their body shape and the way they move. I can distinguish over 70 people individually at my place of work over large distances.

All the others I agree with. I'd still prefer a health monitor of some type, be it either 3 stages of colour or something else because you can always tell how hurt you are (example: the difference between a sucking chest wound and a broken fingernail)
