Strobe Indicator

Post by Sniperdog »

I know Black Hawk Down isn't the most realistic movie in the world but I think it would be somewhat neat and useful for squad leaders to have the strobe from this scene:
YouTube - Black Hawk Down - Little bird attack
to replace the second smoke grenade. The strobe would basically be used in a very similar manner as the smoke. The strobe would be thrown and pilots would be able to see a little green box around that position. (It would also be a functional laser target)
For example
"Enemy marked on the strobe"
"Need pickup F4 kp 9 on the strobe"
"Please drop a crate B6 kp 4 directly on the strobe"

On the technical side of things it would be a very simple hand held component weapon just like any other grenade with a custom strobe geometry (not really that hard to make) and a laser target object attached to it. Simple enough and VERY easy to make possible. Thoughts?

PS I know this has already been suggested before but it has been over a year since last discussed and the idea is very simple and practical to the point where I'm surprised this is not already in game.

Mostly because it is for night time use, where those cool goggles that make everthing black and white are used (sorry I'm reaaally tired). As of now there aren't any night maps in use, so this is sort of useless, although if a night map ever comes around along I think I would vouch for this.

Yeah I'm guessing it's mainly for night-time use, then again maybe it could be useful to signal in transport choppers as the smoke takes ages to build up... Or call in some precise air-support.
