Getting the same, everything plays fine as it did before, just a large increase in CTD's i.e loading maps + random stuff ingame.

I had luck simply installing the 1.41 patch over the 1.50 patch, then installing the 1.50 patch again.

I have disabled Catalyst AI in the ATi drivers and it solved some of my problems. Then anybody with a Creative labs soundcard should seriously consider installing alternative drivers or something as my computer does almost never crash with sound disabled and crashes 2-3 times / map with X-fi on.

I am having the same problem. I get CTD out of no where. I have reformated my computer and updated every driver. Specs bellow:

Vista 64
4 gigs of ram
8800gts 640 x2 SLI

I have been running with all settings maxed out at 2560x1600.

I did not have any problems before the 1.5/.87 upgrade.

Run PR in 'windowed' mode
If you still have problems
run PR in 'windowed' mode to see if any error messages come up
(instead of running in full screen, it runs in a 'window')
To do so
Right click on shortcut.
Choose properties from bottom of list.
Modify the text in your shortcut's 'target' window.

Change
+fullscreen 1
to
+fullscreen 0

Then Google or use 'search' on Project Reality web page for the error message you get.

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Delete the original BF2 folder from your documents folder.

Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your new PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

Good luck

Hey guys, I have tried the methods of deleting the cache, deleting the whole BF2 folder from user documents but still I am getting random CTD's during gameplay never during map loading. These are very frequent and will happen in the space of 2-3 rounds. It has happened more frequent since the 1.5 BF2 patch and the PR 874.
I am getting rather frustrated at this now to be honest :? ??: Can anyone wizkidd please spare me some knowledge. I have being playing PR since v.6

Many thanks in advance - aidez moi!!! hehe
P.s. I have just tried in a windowed mode at the resolution of 1280x768@60hz and the map loaded but all terrain was invisible but items like vegitation and buildings were in place. What options are left?

In game textures set to 'HIGH'
Set the textures to medium.
I'm not sure why this makes a difference with high-end cards that can run games like Crysis
on high quality settings with no problem at the same res,
but for some reason it can matter in Project Reality.

Mutli core/processor causing errors
If you have more than one cpu or 'core' you can set the 'affinity'(force the game to run on one cpu or core only) through your

shortcut by adding
AFFINITY 2
to your shortcuts 'target' string like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

Are you using the downloaded version of BF2? IF yes check out:

I have had the random crashes, and running the 1.41 patch then the 1.5 patch fixed the problem. Can't guarantee it will work for you but it's worth a try.

I am not sure where the location of this "boot.ini" file is that you mentioned in your other thread btw :? I tried search on the vista but it didn't find the file.
I will try re-running the patches

Errrr, no need to mess with that file. :) Maybe you're thinking of video.con? You don't need to mess with that either; it's just for people who can't even start the game.

Theiceman, Add:
start +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

Or use what I do:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1600 +szy 1200 +restart +playerName xxxx +playerPassword xxxx

AFFINITY 2 = forces the game to run on one cpu or core only
+szx 1600 +szy 1200 = sets resolution game runs in.
playerName xxxx +playerPassword xxxx = replace xxxx with your info to auto log on to server browser
