When joining a game it gets to 50% then crash

hello, iam not new to pr but my game has all of a sudden crashing completely when trying to join a server i have a crash dump file but i do not know what is causing it, all i know is i got a new XFX Geforce 9600 GSO it worked great for days now i cant play please help

Did you install the "Levels" download?

make sure your system and graphics drivers are up-to-date and try deleting the bf2 cache
(delete contents of "My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache")

to get an error msg from bf2 you can start it in windowed mode:
change your shortcut's parameters to "+fullscreen 0" ie:

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +fullscreen 0

try reproducing the error and
then google the error message you get from bf2 if you do not find a solution post back here

ok well, when i changed my ingame settings it worked, but it stopped optimizing shaders when i change my ingame video settings i cannot play on medium, i can only play on high or low weird huh? and yes i have everything i need to play pr and the new patch

I've had the same problem, though my versions of the core, levels and bf2 are current.

My PC is above the specs needed to run bf2.

The game was working fine last night and then all of a sudden it started 'chugging' and hung when I alt-tabbed to see if it was a background task. I hit the reset button and got back into PR upon reset - now my maps will only load 50% and then CTD.

I ran pr in windowed mode so that I can get an error message, a little more helpful, and this is what I got:

I've tried changing graphics settings but for some reason it never gets to the stage where it optimizes shaders as it used to do before this problem, which has led me to believe it may be a gfx card problem.

I'm just updating graphics drivers now (slowed to dialup speeds thanks to exceeding my limit) and will post to see if it fixes anything.

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Then
Try Battlefield 2 Update 1.50 ALT+TAB FIX
